Nice while it lasted....no Tiger that is!!!!

And his self centered persona continues by making his BIGGIE announcement during the tournament oh by the way sponsored by one of his sponsors that had the good sense and ethics to dump him.
Unfortunately he is all the media will be interested in for the next few days.

Now we have to listen to all the dribble and tale telling he and his spinners have conjured up. But as the saying goes, you can rearrange the spots on a leopard but when you get all done.....you still have a leopard!!!!!!!!

For me, it was nice to watch the golf greats that deserve the being called great.

Tiger is one the golf greats!

redwitch 02-18-2010 08:20 PM

Sorry, but nothing can take away from his talent. He is, was and always will be a golfing great.

To me, his personal life is just that -- his personal life. What happened between he and any consenting adult is between them and, of course, his wife and family. It is none of our business.

I truly miss the days when it wasn't necessary to report every transgression made by someone famous. In fact, it was kept quiet. Washington was known to sleep in several beds other than his own and the beds were rarely used by just one man. Jefferson not only had sex with his slaves, he fathered children with them. FDR had affairs. So did Eisenhower. Kennedy was notorious (well after the fact, of course). Think Nixon was pretty clean in sexual matters, but not much elsewhere. Bush #1 had been known to stray. Have no clue about Bush #2. Clinton got caught and it besmirched a pretty good presidential run. And, of course, Carter strayed in his heart.

Kareem bragged about sleeping with thousands of women. Magic Johnson caught aids from a woman (he has no clue which one). And so on and so forth.

Being sexually promiscuous does not make you more nor less of a politician, athlete, actor, etc. Now, tell me Tiger cheated while playing golf and I'll happily get on the bandstand and jeer him, as I do Conseco and MacGwire and the other steroid users. Cheating in your sport is wrong and should negate any talent you have. Cheating on your mate is morally wrong but has nothing to do with the talent of the person.

But of course by starting this thread you have fueled the fire and we will all have to discuss Tiger. The media is already making a circus of it, the contents of his 5 minute speech have "surfaced". Will Elin be by his side? Neither of them are wearing wedding bands. He's wearing the "swoosh" while jogging. He has all of his teeth. And on and on and on.

TH - here's a novel idea. Don't allow any threads about Tiger. If anyone starts one have it automatically post as "If you are interested in Tiger Woods please turn on the Golf Channel." (And no one is allowed to post to that thread.)

I would just like to watch him play golf. He took the game to a new level and it entertains me.

I could care less if he never plays another round of professional golf. I too enjoyed the semi peace and quiet while he has been in seclusion but the announcers make sure to mention him at least every few minutes so it is not total peace and quiet

GatorFan 02-18-2010 10:36 PM

I personally never watched golf until Tiger came along. He is a great golfer and will go down in history as one of the best if not the best golfer of all time. I could care less what he does in his private life.

zcaveman 02-18-2010 10:47 PM

I just hope this "conference" is limited to the Golf Channel and that they get tired of talking about it pretty soon. It is ruining my watching the golf channel. I know I can always turn the sound off. But that ribbon does not stop!!

billethkid 02-18-2010 11:06 PM

I just happen to personally believe there is more to the sport

any sport than just being a great player.
OK he draws crowds and plays good. His personal life is his own, granted.

He will just join the ranks of all the many other offenders of moral decency that are forgiven by the fickle fans..... and the owners and some sponsors who don't care as long as the $$$$ rolls in. Such is our permissive society of the 21st century!!!!!!!!!

I am kinda stuck on the " OK he draws crowds and plays good."

Somewhere in that statement is a real understatement. Draws rather large amounts of people and plays better than superman on his best day....

Like or not, he is the best and he is human. He is not the first or last that will make mistakes in his life. If he learns from it and can repair some of damage with his family he will be doing good. But you can not take from him what he has done and still can do.

As for the tournament and sponsor, you need a crying towel like Els does. The only ones crying about it are the ones that cant beat him if he had the FLU, A broken Arm and his clubs were stolen and he had to play with just a broom. Kinda like Kevin Costner all he needs is a 7 iron and your toast.

Enough about him. If the media would let him and his family alone, you wouldnt be on here singing the blues.....

Just A Thought!!!! :cryin2:

There is a significant point you are all missing. Golf is a game of honesty and integrity. It is a game where players are required to call a foul on themselves that only they see. It is a game that if played correctly requires a great deal of ethics. I value that part of the game and believe it is what separates golf from many of the other sports. Tiger was a great golfer. He violated that trust that you have to have to play golf. He will no longer have my respect and I will not support him or his sponsors in the future.

Poor Elin. Poor Masters Tournament!

Aside from his golfing ability, he has now become famous or infamous to the non golfing, trash reading (not always the same) crowd. (I admit I read The National Enquirers' banner headlines when I am waiting in checkout and pick it up and read the inside too)

My personal opinion is that he was too late coming forward with a statement when this happened and now he is too early for my taste. I think that he has decided to play in the Masters and that is the reason for this timing. If he really wanted to "mend" his ruined image, he would wait until he wasn't fresh out of rehab. I personally believe that he had some substance abuse problem as well.

BUT....He doesn't have all of the wisdom that comes with age that is the hallmark of this forum. I really like to read what all of you have to write and sometimes I change my mind because of it.

His value of the public is on a par with politicians i.e.

as in not in the equation!!!!

OK....it is the privledge of some to "pass" all the wrong doing in favor of his so called ability above and beyond all other players (in my opinion an overstatement).
His actions and language on the golf course are not par for the course (puns intended)...the totality of the player is not just an ability to get the best score.
The actions in his personal life and public showing are not consistent with what we would like any of our family to emulate.....except maybe getting a better score.
All are entitled to their opinions, likes/dis-likes.

The sport of golf did just fine before he arrived on the scene. It has survived without him this past few months, and it will eventually survive again without him.

Lest we forget, like politicians actions and words are all orchestrated for public consumption and personal gain only....today's controlled appearance is just that. All part of the coming out plan and the greasing of the skids (and brains of fans) for his return...on his terms...his golf scores may be better than most his his score as a person is at the depths of the other end of the spectrum......all my personal opinion.

If we followed your rule the pro golf tournaments and all golf courses would be empty. This Goody Two Shoes attitude suggests that all golfers are without sin. Do you think that all men and women are without sin?

Pturner 02-19-2010 10:37 AM

Unlike many, I don't know what Tiger is going to say in less than an hour. I don't know whether he is coming back to golf next month, next year or never.

But dear Judges, Jurors and Executioners,

Ye who are tired of hearing about Tiger but not of talking about him,
Ye who resent him coming back (or not) on his own terms, speaking in his own voice.

How would you complete his sentences?

I mean, his verbal and his penal ones.
