Stinky- Waterview homes ???

So there is a thread about homes on streets and now one about homes on golf courses. My question is about water view homes.

I have read about the problems that could exist with alligators :22yikes: and possibly the water drying up.:cryin2: Well, while we were looking at homes, a Realtor said to be careful about the water and smell? stench??? They indicated that some of the ponds can get quite smelly especially in the summer when they get low in level.

Is that true? Does anyone have any experience with this?

There have been a few occasions where ponds have drained suddenly due to sink holes. This caused living matter, including fish, to die and subsequently stink. This is short lived as they are very prompt at correcting these situations.

We have water behind us. In two summers we have had no smells or bugs. We have had noisy frogs.

And....if you want to image what it is like to live with a water view, look at JoJo's avatar. It is absolutely beautiful. Her home has the greatest location.

thanks

Thanks for the responses.. Gracie always good to get your "sage" imput on things. Jojo great avatar...beautiful. Downeaster...thanks for the insight as to the cause of a possible smell. It all sounds great from where I sit.

I agree, JoJo has the MOST beautiful view of all.

I, also, have a pond behind me and other than the blind mosquitos we get in the summer and other than the frogs croaking,,, LOL... its fabulous. Never had an odor nor has the pond dried up in the summer, as some people told me it would.

The positives so much outweigh the negatives, seeing the birds, ducks, hearing the frogs, having no neighbors right behind me,, all that is so wonderful that I wouldn't change it. When you get here SS, you'll come over to see what its like.

Have a good trip here.

Living on The Pond

I wanted to insert a picture of sunset across the pond in my backyard, but alas I can seem to figure out how to,

but the pond view is so peaceful, like Kathie said - more positives, especially not having folks so close to your back yard,
Peace,

Sounds lovely!

I don't have a water view, but I love to hear frogs sing. The louder the better. That goes for both the critters and to TVers who are here 'til they croak.

I don't have a water view.I happen to have a farm behind me which gives me a very private back yard. The one thing I notice throughout the villages is the smell from the sprinkler systems.I'm guessing that since the water used in irrigation is reclaimed water from the retention ponds that the smell originates from the ponds. The only thing feeding these bodies of water are rain and the runoff from the sprinklers nearby.I don't believe they're spring fed ,so that would make them stagnant hence the odor. I may be all wet(pun intended)..Just a thought:shrug:

We have water behind our house with no stinky smells at all.

However, we looked at a house in a Village close to 466A. It backed on a pond with a terrible smell. There was a little building nearby. We thought perhaps it was a sewer treatment facility. Buyer beware.

Stand on the #1 green on Cherry Hill, right now. You will get a strong boggy water smell. I don't know how the residents surrounding the pond located on the Oaks course at Hacienda Hills, around holes 5,6 and #4 green. During the dog days of summer, you can gag there.
