Woman hit by car in CR466 Publix parking lot.

This just happened within the hour or so.

They had a lot of emergency vehicles there.

I'm so very sorry to hear about this! Two things though about the parking lots here....1st is many folks walk as if they have the right of way without looking both ways first. Some walk down the center of the lanes. NOT saying this happened with this poor woman. I do hope she wasn't seriously injured!
2. We all see drivers in the parking lots who seem to think it's a roadway and that they're the only ones on it. I pray that that woman recovers o.k. regardless of the circumstances.

So sorry to hear that! That’s one of the most dangerous parking lots in villages. Both drivers and people coming out of the stores don’t pay attention. I’m surprised it don’t happen every day, every time I go to store I see cars speeding for spot, people on cell phones, just waltzing along not paying attention. To make it worse than it already is, you’ve got glare, blind spots, most cars now days have big blind spots due to slanted windshields and thick A pillars. You can be very cautious and still not see someone when the angle is just right. I don’t even want to talk about people backing out of spots which compounds the problem 10 fold.

I just love it when I'm edging out slowly with my backup lights on, and people walk right behind you. Sometimes I think they are looking for a reason to file a law suit.

You beat me to it - one of my biggest pet peeves. When backing out often times you can't see someone walking up on you from behind until you've edged out some, especially if you are in a car parked beside an SUV or truck. I understand the concern about people walking down the center of the lanes, but likewise too many people walk way to close to the backs of vehicles. Best option when walking is to give some space between you and the back of the vehicle and stay alert for backup lights.

Your last statement is a concern to me as well. I've actually had something like this happen to someone I know. It has been a long, drawn out legal nightmare for them.

My parents were picking up the stuff for Thanksgiving dinner while I was watching the dog and doing other stuff. They had said they took so long because they could not get out of the Southern Trace Publix parking lot because a woman was hit by a car and they had a lot of emergency vehicles blocking their way out.

I did not see anything in today's paper about this nor on the other site that must not be named.

I assume a lot of people saw this though.

Despite veering off into discussion about parking lot dangers, I'm so sorry to hear this happened. I do hope the woman is okay.

One of the most dangerous, how was that determined?
Where are the others?

Just adding....Colony's parking lot isn't a picnic neither.....or the one up by Best Buy or Sam's. I'd venture to say that people need to get a gripe and quit driving like they did in their former locations, up north. People bring their bad habits here with them! Add to that age, medical issues, attitude and more. If anyone has an update re: the accident...let us know. So sad to happen anytime....but right before a holiday makes it all the more awful.

By one of, which means there are many more! Which IMO the number 1 most dangerous are any postal station parking lot between hours of 3:30 and 5PM.

paminix 11-22-2018 08:23 PM

You are so right! I've learned to go only early am and after 5:00. People don't even look!

I also agree with this! People zoom in with their vehicles---be it their cart or car and many times are on the wrong side of the "lane" because they didn't ease into the lot properly. But then you see this in other lots as well. I swear people either didn't have driver's education OR they left the "rules of the road" back in the class-room once they got their license.

I am totally amazed at how almost everyone pulls into a parking space INSTEAD of backing in. If you are unable to back into a parking spot you should NOT have a driver's licence. Being able to see clearly what is in FRONT of you makes so much more sense than reading all these articles about people getting hit. There is a reason WINDSHIELDS are so BIG--use them!! Really rings true that common sense does not grow in everyone's garden.

I am totally amazed when people try to back in parking spots (like at this Publix), when the driving rows are...one way.

VApeople 11-23-2018 07:23 AM

We always use pull-thru sites whenever we can. When we go to Publix, we always pull thru, which means we are pointed the wrong way when we leave.

No problem. At least we can see where we are going when we leave.
