GF-14 Garage Vent Fan

I am considering installing a GF-14 Garage Vent Fan from Solar Guys. Has anyone installed this? Does it work as promised? Does it violate building codes and insurance regulations?

Would appreciate any insight.

Thanks in advance

I also am interested....

I did see on Amazon and Home Depot's website that the reviews for this fan are mixed. Quality and Reliability seem to be the concerns.

You are welcome to stop by our local showroom and take a look at the fan in action. We even have a fan thats more powerful than the GF-14 that we can show you as well.

Showroom is 1 Mile South of the Market of Marion. Address is 13624 S. US Hwy. 441, Summerfield FL 34491.

I would not install this fan, not because it is a poor product rather because of the type of motor. These types of motors typically use 3.5 amps or so, or 420 watts. According to my energy monitor my fan ran 70 hours in August (it is thermostatically controlled). You will probably use yours more than the 2 hours and 20 minutes a day that I did.

For illustration purposes lets use my usage. Using just that August, as an example, the GF-14 will cost 3.44 in electricity to operate for than month. Not a life changing amount but this fan: QuietCool QC ES-1500 Energy Saver Fan Line Model: Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific would cost .50. You will be paying this difference for every hot month year after year.

Or just open the door.

I would not install a vent fan in the garage unless someone was living in the garage. I park my car and go into the air conditioned house. What purpose does the fan serve?

We had one of these fans installed by Solar Guys a couple of years ago. The installation was well done however the fan is noisy. The motor is very loud. The one they demonstrated to me in the show room was much quieter. I called the shop and talked with them about the noise. They passed it off as if it is normal for them to be loud. My neighbor was considering having one installed but once he heard how loud it was he decided against it.

Would you use the fan, insulation over the garage, or a heat barrier? One, two, or all three?

None of the above. Your garage is going to be hot no matter what you do.

Yes, especially when you pull you’re hot vehicle in. If air temperature is 90 it better than 99. So 90 degree air cooler than 100 degree air. Will it make difference? Probably few degrees?????

Had mine for about 7 years with NO problems. Exhaust the garage heat into the attic and the solar powered fans in the attic exhaust the heat outside. It’s very quiet and is thermostatic controlled. Would do it again for sure. Also has an automatic shut off in case of a fire in the garage.

I insulated during construction.
Very small investment.
I notice a significant difference.
I would do it again.
