Need toilet replaced
 

I need to have a toilet replaced. I prefer to buy the toilet myself and then have someone install it. If you have a suggestion on someone to do that, please let me know. Thank you.

A Plumber most likely will NOT install a toilet you buy....just like I do not bring my own eggs to the Diner......this is an easy 30 minute DIY job that a good handyman could do.

Of course, there are sometimes risks in hiring someone....so I am not endorsing any one method. I do everything myself,.....I designed and built my own house, delivered all three of my sons, etc. ...But I know this is not within everyone's skillset.

I would also suggest you replace the supply line and check the shut off when you have this done. Good luck!

I usually agree with most things that Frank says, but I do not think this is a 30 minute DIY project for an inexperienced homeowner. An experienced handyman could handle it, but, personally, I would hire a licensed plumber. And, if a plumber will not install a toilet that you purchased, then why not just buy the toilet from the plumber? A plumber should be able to get any model of toilet that you want.

Having replaced close to a dozen toilets for people in The Villages, I no longer do them. I’ve run into issues with cracked toilet flanges (caused during installation),floors which are not level (plumbers using grout to level the toilet base), etc. While I agree that a homeowner can replace a toilet on his or her own, in my opinion, it’s money well spent to hire a licensed/insured plumber. Mike Scott Plumbing recently installed a toilet for one of my customers for $85.00. This was a toilet supplied by the homeowner. Another good piece of advice is to replace the supply line, and if your house has a push-pull (Accor) valve, it’s probably not a bad idea to replace it with a 1/4 turn valve.

Use the installation Service that Home Depot or Lowe’s offers. They even bring the toilet you select with them. Piece of cake. Great job every time we’ve used them. Good Luck, there is no drawback.

All good things here....Perhaps 30 minutes is a bit optimistic, especially for an inexperienced DIY'er. This is assuming there are no rusted bolts, cracked flanges, etc, etc......like most things, sometimes projects are a breeze, and sometimes they go downhill fast.

I am surprised that Mike Scott will install a homeowner bought toilet. Many Plumbers will not, and will not guarantee the job. I did not think a Plumber would get in his truck for $85.00

Like all projects, if you have the skillset and know the possible ramifications, go for it. If DIY is not your cup of tea, then it is wise to hire out. We are ALL experts at some things and novices at other things.

A wise person knows his strong points and his limitations.
