It’s also 26 degrees there this morning. I’ll happily pay a few more cents for gas in Florida :)

Regular was $1.99.9 at at gas station in Belen, NM right off I-25 on 12/24/18. The nearby Costco price was undoubtedly less. I had spent the afternoon visiting in-laws in San Acacia where we were able to sit outside in bright sunshine on a relatively warm day.

Florida has no state income tax. I don’t know what the state tax on gasoline is in Florida but the state needs revenue to operate. Tourism related taxes probably bring in a significant percentage of Florida’s tax revenue.

Petroleum prices are due to rise. Oil has been priced exceptionally low for a while.

I filled up at Costco in Altamonte Springs for $1.91 last week.

Wow, that's a great price. I paid $2.29 yesterday in Taxachusetts for gas. However, I wish I was paying over $3.00 for ethonal free gas in the Villages to put in the golf cart : ). I would be much warmer and happier if that was the case. Also, I would be golfing instead of splitting firewood.

I will be in TV next week and I will happily pay the going price for my gasoline. FWIW Missouri has the lowest gasoline tax in the nation. The voters turned down an initiative on the ballot in November to incrementally raise the tax by 10 cents for infrastructure improvement. We had a legislator several years ago who got a constitutional amendment voted on and passed that any tax increase had to be voted on by the public. Be careful what you wish for. We very much need the infrastructure improvements and we need to pay more gasoline tax.

In UK and most of Europe $4.40 is about average price per gallon.

Filled up at $2.75 a week ago in NY (near Posughkeepsie), Gas prices have always had very wide fluctuation around the country.

Although I agree that infrastructure improvements are necessary and need to be funded, I disagree that a gas tax is the way to pay for it. Up north we live in a very rural area on the end of a 2 mile dirt road that is impassable during the winter and early spring without a 4WD vehicle with lots of ground clearance. By necessity, our vehicles do not get great gas mileage, and every time we go out to just about anywhere we have a minimum 40 mile round trip drive. Gas taxes are very unfair to people who choose a rural lifestyle. Since almost all of infastructure dollars are spent in urban areas, where mass transit is widely available, urbanites get almost all the benefits of infrastructure investment while paying only a small portion of the cost. There has to be a more fair way of paying for infrastructure than a gas tax that unduly burdens rural people.
