We had a rabbit get into our back yard and munch on our plantings. Do not know if it was because the gate latch is worthless and the gate opened, or the rabbit got under the gate.

Is there gate latch that can be attached to the outside of the gate so the mowing people can open the gate? The gate has an edge that extends so it is not even with the gate door, so a sliding bolt would not work as it is not a flat surface. Currently are using a bungee cord to insure the gate stays closed.

Would anyone know how small a gap a rabbit is able to squeeze through?

Is there something that can be attached to the bottom of the gate to eliminate the gap at the bottom of the gate?

Rabbits squeeze through very small spaces easily. I just read it can fit through a space as small as 3 inches.

Buy a small have-a-heart trap and try to catch it for relocation, probably more than one running around.

Rabbits can pretty much squeeze under anything. They’re kinda like cats — if they can fit their head through, the body will find a way to follow. The latch won’t make a bit of difference. Chicken wire is your best bet, but not just at gate — you’re going to have to pretty much do it around the perimeter of the fence and at least 6 inches into the ground. Rabbits are pretty good burrowers.

Rehome a retired greyhound, and give them the run of your yard!

If you have rock yard they just dig under the PVC fence. If you look along the fence on both side sod the yard you should see small gap at bottom. If you just push the rocks back they will just move them out of the way and come in. Trap and relocate probably you’re best option once they learn how to get in. Usually rabbits don’t last too long. Between hawks, owls, coyotes, bobcats, and foxes soon or later the problem will go away

I bought a shower curtain rod for the space at the bottom of my gate....it fills the gap nicely so that that pesky rabbit can't get under, but still allows free opening of the gate. And expandable curtain rod as just perfect for the space....
