Peter Rabbit and his family

We planted a wonderful bed of pansies in the front of our house. Within a week, all of the flowers were eaten by rabbits. And yet, as we drive throughout the Villages, the wonderful beds of flowers are lush and thriving. Okay, what am I doing wrong? Why are my flowers more tempting then others.

CT, Is your name by any chance... Mr. McGregor?

Hi CT,

I have heard that you can mix up a natural concoction with garlic and chili powder (I think it is) added to water and soaked in at the roots. I have also heard that rabbits do not like Tabasco sauce or cayenne pepper in the mix. You might be able to find a recipe by Googling rabbit repellent and natural.

But I don't know if any of this actually works. Does the smell really send them hoppin' down the bunny trail to somebody else's flowers? Maybe while you are outside mixing it up in your watering can, you could talk in a really loud voice about how you are creating a lovely sauce for hassenpfeffer.

I live in Ohio where deer plot against me, and sometimes rabbits. But mostly -- deer. I gave up on tulips. I have a picture somewhere of a fawn eating my beautiful purple and pink tulips like they were popcorn. I had worked my tail off the fall before, digging and digging and planting those bulbs, in chicken wire even so nothing would get them underground. Might as well not have bothered.

Good luck.
