Quack Quack!!

did not know quite where to post this but i have a very nervous mama mallard nesting on 10 eggs in the high grasses by my front door in hemingway. oh, how darling, i thought, until i started picturing 11 ducks defecating all over my front patio! who has an educated opinion on whether i should call animal control? i know i should not touch the eggs, mama flies out and away when i go out to water my flowers. any ideas? thanks

Just leave 'em alone. As soon as they can walk, mama waddles them to the water -- no birdie poop for you to worry about. They don't hang around the nest very long. (At least that was the case with a nest right by the front door of one of my client's.)

How I wish I could be there to see it all! Pictures would be nice!

imho........ leave nature to it's course and simply hose down the droppings after they are gone.

Happy Easter..........

Just let Mom be and everything will be okay. I have lived on a lake for over 25 years and find a nest somewhere around the house every few years and it has never been a problem. Mom will get the chicks to water as soon as possible and they will be off. Ducks have never been a problem but geese are a totally different story.

Keep one thing in mind those little duckies will never forget where your house in at . They will be back every year. Thats one for mother nature. They do multiply

to my deep chagrin all the eggs were gone this morning! i do not know what became of them! i was starting to anticipate the arrival of those babies! a neighbor said some children were doing an easter egg hunt this morning!! oh, no! i feel so badly for mama mallard....she must think i am a murderer! the nest is still there with no sign of foul play (pardon the pun!) i feel really bad about this...thanks for all your replies....
