I have had Comcast for years. They had an Internet only price 4 years ago for $65/mo. Competition has forced them down to the $45 to $49/mo range. Four years ago I told them I would not pay $65 and after battling through a few of their sale staff I got to Customer Retention and stated I could get service for considerably less so unless they would lower my price I would bail. With an annual call, ending with Customer Retention, my monthly pricing has been from $19.95 to $34.95. Currently I am paying $29.95.

but what mbps do you have?

devohna 02-12-2019 07:31 AM

I have comcast and will soon be dumping them the amount of internet going in and out of my house is horrible they have sent people out and there is nothing they can do I will have to purchase boosters to make their junk equipment work. oh and charged me 60 dollars service fee. or put my modem six feet in the air in the center of the house (my dining room) for it to work. I have an amerillo only 1350 sq ft and I have horrible internet from the front bedroom to the frontroom most of the time. we had century link at first and they were great but price just kept going up. I wonder if spectrum comes up here.

As I explained; Threaten to discontinue service and negotiate.

You might want to look into buying your own "modem/router" as it may provide you better Wi-Fi performance. Check with your provider for a list of compatible equipment. I have no issues with Wi-Fi performance with my own 802.11ac router.

I just dropped Spectrum (100Mbps) as the charges went from $55 to $65 per month for internet only service. I tried several times to have Spectrum return to the $55 charge with no desire on their part to change a thing. So, I will try Xfinity (150Mbps) at $49.95 for a year and see how that goes. I use my own Netgear modem/router.

We just tried that and $69/mo for 60 Mbps was the best they'd do. :-(

Can we all just hire you to negotiate for us????

Nucky 02-13-2019 10:59 AM

I would think the other choice is Comcast. It was a little over $30 a month for a year with their Modem/Router. After making sure everything was up to snuff I bought a highly rated Motorola Modem/Router from Amazon and two Cheapo Extenders or Boosters. Great service so far. Now we pay $19.99 a month for the rest of the year. The service is 25 Giggawatts. We stream our Television now and have no problem.

I expect to renegotiate after the first year's contract is over. I start with the I'm quitting (Retention) department and show no sign of maybe I'll stay, be strong cause they will do anything to keep you. You don't have to accept their first offer. Tell then a little story about your neighbors and how little they pay with another company. It's a game so play the game.

xFinity scam?

I tried to enroll in xFinity 80 mbps internet service this morning and was told there would be a MANDATORY $70 installation fee but could not receive an explanation of what would be done other than "connection". I looked online and there were many people who tried to enroll in "internet only" and received this fee but neighbors that enrolled in internet And tv did not. Is this just another way to collect more money by Comcast?

Arctic Fox 05-26-2019 11:30 AM

I managed to renegotiate Comcast twice but they refused to budge the third time.

After talking with several of their people for around half an hour I told them to disconnect me, hoping they would relent on pricing, but no luck - they just turned me off.

They haven't even sent me a slew of mail begging me to come back (unlike DirecTV, whom I dropped years ago but they are still trying).
