Black Tar like substance on carpets
 

Is anyone having a problem with black tar like substance on your carpet? It is the original builders carpet. I pride myself keeping a very clean home, but carpet is driving me crazy. I have it cleaned once a year, but it just gets worse. Is there something you can recommend to get rid of this problem? I would appreciate any help you can give. My regular carpet cleaner runs into it frequently.

If you are a snowbird and leave your home with the air conditioning turned off while you are gone, it is probably mold.

We had the same problem in house#1. House was 2 months old. Warranty Dept had carpet installers come to fix. When they pulled up carpet, the concrete had spots that looked like something had been spilled on it.

No idea what it was, we thought mold, but installers said no. Once they cleaned it never came back

Had the same problem four years ago. It will keep coming back until the carpet and padding are replaced.
