Places to stay in Key West?

We are planning a short trip to Key West in May by way of the passenger ferry boat out of Ft Myers. We would only be in Key West for one night.

We've never been there before and would appreciate suggestions for places to stay for the one night.

Based on internet research and a small prior thread on TOTV, it looks like a B&B in the old Town section, close to Duval St, would be the way to go. Not cheap but not expensive, i.e. less than $200 for the night. More interested in location than amenities but would like something private, comfortable, clean, and safe.

Any prior experiences or suggestions???

Many thanks...

We just returned from 10 days in Feb. There are lots of great B&Bs off Simonton St which runs parallel to Duval. Stay back a bit from Duval which is a bit honky tonk late into the evening.

We stayed this time at the Sheraton Suites across from Smathers Beach. They shuttle you back and forth into town if you want every 1/2 hr, which we found fine and since the wind was blowing at the time we visited we appreciated their courtyard pool and it's protected chairs to sit and sun.

There are so many wonderful places to eat, but I recommend SARABETHS on Simonton for breakfast, Abundanza for hugh amounts of italian food, Petronia St--Bodega, Cafe Marquesa, which also has an Inn on or just off Simonton St.

I hope you enjoy the experiance.

You won't have time to go to the cementary with the famous tombstone that reads, "I told you I was sick".

Lots of B & B's. We have stayed several times at The Heron House, a great little place on Simington St. Close to everything and just a block off Duval. http://www.heronhouse.com/
If you like sea food try 7 Fish a great small place that has great fresh sea food. It's on Oliva St. http://www.7fish.com/. Conch Republic has a great Happy Hour and great peel and eat shrimp, ask if thy have any Royal Reds and if they do have them hot with drawn butter.
If you have time stay at least two nights and three is better. Lots to see and do. Check out trip advisor for lots of good information, http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowForum...s_Florida.html
Key West is more of an attitude than a place.

only one night? please ttry to stay a bit longer.
we stayed at the blue parrot on elizabeth street; convenient and quiet, lovely pool.
do lots of exploring; rent bicycles.
sarabeths for breakfast was great.
ask your hotel hosts for dinner recommendations; the can steer you away from the places that only cater to tourists.
and you must get to mallory square at sunset; there is a lot of unusual entertainment there, including a fascinating feline performance group.
enjoy!

We like the "Best Western Hibiscus". And rent a moped, super way to get around.

It is too bad you are only staying one night. We just love Key West and I highly recommend staying at a B&B close to Duval St. We have stayed at The Conch House 625 Truman Av. Very charming, clean and safe.
