HELP! How do we get the irrigation system going???
 

HELP! I received a e-mail from my lawn service that the lawn on our house we purchased in January is VERY DRY. My husband is presently at the house. Who do we contact to figure out how to set it and make sure it is going? We live in Hemingway. I don't want to lose the sod and bushes that are there now. Please help us. Hopefully you are all set by now. Unclear from your post if there is an issue with system or system configured wrong...

If it were me, I would:

• find the manual that tells me how to setup and test the sprinkelrs... OR
• I would give your builder a call and ask for help. Our builder was always very nice. I suspect they will send out someone to give you a sprinkler orientation OR
• find a neighbor, if your neighborhood is like mine, folks will be more than happy to help

Let me know if none of that works....

When you closed (if you bought new) you should have received a notice to contact the company that installed your system. They will walk through the irrigation system with you, show you how to set the timer, adjust the sprinkler heads, and give you an instructional booklet etc.

Contact the builder or home warranty and they will point you in the right direction. Up until last night it was getting fairly dry and the need to run your sprinkler system weekly is here!! Also make certain you check that you can "SEE" each sprinkler head come up and where it sprays water. We actually had 2 sprinkler heads that were not connected and did not realize it until after the warranty period......it was on our nickel to get it fixed!!

If you have a new home you should have received an irrigation system orientation at the time of your walk-through with the builder. If you did not, call the Home Warranty Dept. and they will assist you. My home is about 2 1/2 yrs. old and the instructions are printed inside the control box in the garage. It's all pretty clear if you take it step-by-step. As stated above, your neighbors will be a great resource and very willing to help. Just feel free to ask. It's a good way to get to know them. We were there only two days in February and two days in April. We haven't got to the irrigation system orientation. Thanks for telling us to check with the Warranty Dept. My husband's cousin came over, but never really figured anything out. I appreciate your help!

We are having a similar problem with our irrigation system. We closed in early March and had our irrigation orientation. We returned to our northern home a week and a half later. The rep showed me how to operate the controller, then set it up for me. It was sprinkling rain so he described how to adjust the sprinkler heads. He said he was certain the heads were correctly adjusted.
About 3 weeks after we got back up north I got a call from our lawn guy that the lawn was very dry.
I had left a key with a neighbor, whom I called. He agreed to take a look at our controller. He found it to be shut off. He turned it on and we thought we were all set. I got a call last week from the company who treats our property for pests and cares for our landscaping saying our lawn was much too dry. I asked if they would check my system, which they agreed to do.
I called my neighbor again, who let the rep in from Masseys. They found my sprinkler controller settings were incorrect.
This was after I was assured that everything was fine by the company who installed the system. I specifically asked the rep if everything was set correctly, because I was returning to New York and wouldn't be there to keep an eye on things. He again assured me the all was well.
My neighbor says my lawn is looking better, finally. Tomorrow I'll call the irrigation system installer to find out why all this happened.
As you might guess, I'm extremely annoyed that I was fed a line of b.s. by the tech. sent out to give me my orientation. I want the installer to return and make sure the system is operating correctly but I'm afraid they'll screw it up again.

Just a tip I may offer out of personal experience.If you wish to delete all settings to start reprograming the timer from scratch don't forget to disconnect the 9 volt battery.If you don't you will not delete all the settings.
