So Just Who DOES Live in The Villages?

I've noticed most of us have noted where our hometowns are in addition to living in The Villages, or have acknowledged that we don't live in the Villages (dklaussen).

But what about the rest of us? I'm particularly interested in Donna2, mainly because your posts seem antithetical to any lifestyle in The Villages that I know of. Dk's "bio" makes lots of sense now, and his posts have the logic of someone who considers himself a "rugged individualist."

So I was just wondering, in this very conservative Adult Disneyworld, who has chosen to live in our communities?

Well golly, I thought you liberal types were against profiling. Tell me. How many "lifestyles" do you know in The Village and what kind of "lifestyle" do you have?
No. Wait a minute. I do not want to know.

You didn't answer the question. I'm referring to the name of this message board. Are you hiding something?

1. Please explain WHY you need to know this and what generalizations you can garner from them ?

2. I am from the northeast.....a Democrat from 1960 till approx 1972 then changed registration....son of a 50 year steelworker in Western Pa...Navy veteran....married a gal I met in college (financed by waiting tables and other great jobs)...managed distribution plant and ended up as service manager for a large manufacturing company.....wife was a schoolteacher for 33 years...retired and moved to Florida in 1998..built my home here in The Villages in 2001...still work parttime (3 days a week).

I responded but hope you will share WHY you feel the need to know this !

As far as your comment about Donna....I think you better get out more !

Actually, there are many, many, many lifestyles in The Villages (It's plural, not singular). It's not a profile. As you may have guessed, I'm a Democrat, I go to the Philosophy Club, I play trivial pursuit, swim and volunteer fo the Relay for Life. I like to read spirituality books, and occasionally attend lectures on Edgar Cayce or other transcendentalists. And I LOVE politics.

I moved here to care for my mom full time-she was very sick- but she has recovered and we play golf 2x a month, and she has returned to driving, playing bridge, University Women, etc. I now work full-time as physical therapy assistant, and do not plan to retire in The Villages. I like to grow tomatoes in my flower garden. I cannot get the d##n golf cart to work.

I'm also very active in my Church and its social outreach programs, including the Foodbank and Habitat for Humanity

PTown. we need to meet sometime and have a cup of coffee together. Like you I LOVE politics, am a killer at Trivial Pursuit and believe I would enjoy the Philosophy Club. Like your mom, I enjoy bridge. I am active in my church and led the establishment of a major and wildly successful outreach programs.

Just a few weeks after I moved here my wife was the victim of sudden-onset dementia. My time is largely devoted to looking after her.

I believe we would enjoy each others company. Send me a PM if you are interested.

PS - I am a conservative and secondarily a Republican. I'm registered Republican just so I can vote in the primaries.

We moved here in 2001. I grew up in northern Indiana and have spent most of my life yo-yoing between Indiana and Tennesse, with a few stops in foreign ports and Chicago. I have always been a sports and political junky. I love to play bridge, pinochle and golf. Also, like to follow my Cubbies around. In my next life I'm picking a different team. Needless to say I am of the conservative persuasion.

I lean left of center in social issues but conservative on financial issues. Unfortunately I still work full-time which involves a lot of travel. My hobbies are golf, women's basketball and softball (can't play anymore because of the knees). Rabid Lady Vols and Broncos fan.

Fly Southeast for the winter and northwest for the summer.

Love political discussion.....

Rarely do i do this

I have never played this game Of :you show me yours and I will show you mine . This is the first time.

My mother told me when I was a little boy that I could not ever consider myself successful if I took a dime from a charity or the Government. She told me to work hard, get a degree and earn enough money so I could afford to give to charities.

My mother dropped out of school when she finished the 6th grade. In spite of that she was a brilliant independent hard worker. She never took a dime from anyone. She had very little and lived an honest simple life.

I did what she said. I had no money so I went to work when I was 12 years old and began paying my own way. I worked nights in a drug store until I finished High School then worked full time in a large men's clothing store.

I started University at night school taking whatever course I could afford.
After 8 years of four nights a week I added all day saturday classes.
Two years more and I got a BA then contined 3 years more for an MBA and then became a CPA. My mother was the happiest woman in the world.

I am 84 have been married to the same woman for over 50 years and have 3 children.

My entire family lives as christians without any animosity toward others and are independent and self reliant.

We all have decided that the conservative approach to life and politics makes more sense.
