How about that 145th Kentucky Derby?
That was quite an ending to the 2019 Kentucky Derby.
2019 Kentucky Derby winner, results: Country House emerges with victory after Maximum Security disqualified - CBSSports.com |
There's gonna be a huge * in the history books...on this one.

Such a shame. But it could have a real disaster.

I am a big NASCAR fan, and as I was watching the Derby, I said to my wife that looked like a NASCAR block, I never imagined I was watching a foul and what was going to be a disqualification. Great race, glad there were no injuries.

Country House won't sniff the win in the Belmont. Unfortunate ending but rules are rules.

If it had been any other race, the final decision would have been the same...only made in probably less than 2 minutes. |
Just Wondering
Maximum Security most likely would have still won, but Country House probably would not have even placed had the foul not occurred and the others been impeded. Just a thought: Could a more experienced jockey have controlled Maximum Security and avoided the foul?

The horses were running in the slop, sometimes strange things happen. It didn't appear the eventual winner was hindered at all. There is a reason why this hasn't happened in the 130 plus years of the Derby. It's a bad look for racing. And in my humble opinion, had Maximum Security been a Baffert or Lukas trained horse, there would have been zero chance he would have been taken down. No matter, it's done.

Feel free to set me straight. I got all my info from online news. I'll be rooting for Country House next. I love an underdog. After all, I'm Pittsburgh Pirates fan.:) |
Some folks lost a lot of money and a few won a lot of money. Unless there are assigned lanes (as in swimming), for me, racing is racing and not sure, with that amount of horses, in a pack, in slop, "infractions" could be avoided. I wonder if they reviewed every horse through out the race to see if infractions occurred farther back.....oh wait, sorry, the money runs out after the top three so who would care

It must have been a noticeable foul, since objections are rarely upheld. The judges said it's very difficult to determine fouls in a sloppy wet racetrack, especially on the last dash to the finish, but all three agreed unanimously. A trainer who was in the stands with his daughter spotted it immediately and surmised there would be objections. Fascinating to read. I got my information from articles on The Guardian online news, if anyone wants to catch it. I'm sure you're right about the money part. |
Is that where horses run in a circle?
