Irrigation Popups replacement

5 Attachment(s)
OK been slowing replacing majority of my Popups sprinkler irrigation with Drippers/shower heads. Now I water the Plant and not the rocks. Absolutely no water wasted or running down the street. installed about 80 of these that water the plant and not the rock yard. Also, cut my water usage probably in half. the system off when pictures were taken. When on the sprinkler modified heads pop up where I didn't replace them with direct connecting pipe.

Here what I replaced them with or modified the popup with 6 or 4 outlet heads to run 1/4" tubing sprinklers drippers.

These sprinkler drippers run 40.5 ounces per minute (just over quart in minute if you run them fully open) So, in my case I run most for 5 mins which is about 1.5 Gallons. So, each plant in my yard gets around 1.5 gals. from each station, which I have 6 stations. On my Veggie I don't run them fully open so I get about 2 1/2 quart's of water in in 25 gallon container. I haven't figure out how many gallons popups spray yet, but I'll get to it to see how much difference in watering plant or watering plant and rocks?

You have to modify 6 or 4 multiple outlets if you don’t replace the pop up. The size and threads are not 1/2”. If you want to use the rain bird EMT-6X head for 6 outlets, you have take the pop up top off, separate it and epoxy it inside the EMT-6X cause it 1/2”. I have several extra spray nozzles to separate cause it you don’t clamp the pop up without the nozzle it hard to get back up to screw back on.

You also have to ream out the threads to get the spray nozzle threaded end to fit inside the EMT-6X so when you epoxy it it will screw on the pop up. I done this cause I could and didn’t want to dig out few pop ups. Just as easy to dig out the pop up and just screw 1/2” by
6” pipe or longer or shorter to get it at the right level.

more information added to flow rate of these dripper sprinklers added.

OK, figured how Flow rate per minute between dripper sprinklers vs. Popups at 180 degrees spray pattern. Difference is: Drippers sprinklers flow 40.5 ounces of water per minute or 1.3 quarts. Popup spray nozzles flow 192 ounces Per minute or 1.5 gallons per min. So big difference plus the popups just don't water the plant it waters all around the plants and yard in spray pattern 180 degrees which water more of the rocks that the plant. FYI if interested. now I'm actually watering the plant and not the rocks with less water and minutes run time. And yes, I verified the math by running each in bucket and measuring the amount of water each produced.

Very nice job. Depending on your plants and how long ago they were planted you may not need to water them. The hedges I have along my home were planted a few years ago and do not need additional watering. New plants need watering to help encourage the roots to grown down into the ground.

You’re right my grown bushes probably don’t need the water. I have few tropical plants, Hawaiian TI, and bunch of copper leafs, and few others which need some water every few days. I have around 23 different varieties of plants in my Cracker Jack end lot, plus some veggies 🍅 🌶 and fruits.
