We used a doggy dooley for our large pooch in Ohio for about 12 yrs and worked great as long as you followed the directions for maintenance of the system.

Has anyone used one in the Villages? I was all set to get one at Petco and the ad says it doesn't work well in heavy clay or sand. When we picked out our lot, it looked pretty sandy to me which makes me wonder if it will work. We pass papers in Pennecamp on 9/3 and trying to come prepared.

Thanks for any info

We were surprised to find so much sand rather than dirt everywhere in TV. We immediately collect our dogs' stool in the plastic sleeves that come with our Daily Sun newspaper, knot the plastic and place them in a tightly sealed thermal trash can (the can is metal and has a removable plastic pail) with flip top lid that we keep outside in the shade. There is no smell. (If you can't find this kind of trash can then a trash can for disposal of baby diapers should work.) We then empty as often as possible into our regular trash on pick up days. Works for us. :p

Thanks, K9-Lovers, sounds doable.

What a novel way to dispose of the pet's unwanted materials, but I do have a suggestion. Wrap them in the entire newspaper while in the bag, that way you don't have all that trash to remove.

We have used one for 20 years and LOVE IT! We also read about the soil type, and in Alabama were we had it, it was HEAVY CLAY, and it worked just fine. As others have said the only thing is you must follow the directions of add a quart of water dailey and enzyme weekly. We found I tub of the enzyme lasts a year! It also ogt pretty routine that when I would bring his food out, we had an old milk jug that was marked at a quart and would just feel the dooly up then. Never had a problem. Probably the only problem with sandy soil would be digging the initial hole cause you have to use a post hole digger and go down almost 4 feet.
When we move to TV fulltime instead of weekends we will definitely be putting another one in. As I said me and the wife love them.

We take our newspapers to St.Timothy Catholic Church because they recycle newspapers and give profit to the needy. There is a collection area behind the church -- 2 giant dumpsters. Just follow the golf carts; lots of people are always dropping off their papers.
