It's Legal to Wear White!
Okay folks -- it's Memorial Day and you can now wear white without being laughed at, scorned, pointed at, etc. HOWEVER, keep in mind that when Labor Day comes, wearing white after that is a no-no! :a040: |
My observation is Anything goes in Florida! If I were still in Illinois, No Way would I wear White before Memorial Day or After Labor day. Here, if it's 80 degrees on Christmas, White is perfectly acceptable! Just go with the flow!

I wear white underwear year-round.

I think Kathleen Turner knows best:

Anytime the temp is 80 or above, I will wear white and so will the wife. Who cares?

The summer/winter what to wear rules are for the Northern parts.
Warmer and tropical like environments are much more casual and have no such guidelines/rules/etc. Thank GOD! |
If you really want to see folks wearing white, go by the lawn bowling area at the Rio Grand Rec. facility when the lawn bowling club is doing their thing. Nothing but white, from head to toe.

Most people don't look good in all white anyway. Even tennis players have given that up. It's a very unforgiving non-color.

white
It's those white shoes that gets me.....soooooo 80's.
|
I used to wear white when I was shoveling snow so no one could see me :-)

My grandma used the no white before Labor Day rule, being raised in the south.
White after Labor Day may not come into anyone thoughts under the age of 70. When was the last time you saw white shoes unless they were wedding satin. White sandals are more available, One can find all white shirts, and pants, wearing them together comes few and far between. |

The uniform here is golf shirts and shorts, both genders. Can be worn to any restaurant or place of worship, for dancing at the squares, usually unironed. I am even getting used to caps in restaurants. The Villages have redefined style. We are CASUAL here. You can usually tell a newcomer, they have long hair and are wearing heels and are with a guy with no socks and loafers. |
Gracie, your descriptions hit the Mark. I have adapted to some of the new norms here, but still have trouble seeing shorts in Church. I was brought up to wear your "Sunday Best" and ALWAYS a Hat! Now it looks like we're going to a Picnic! Also, the "Unironed" shirts are pretty much what I see in my Grands once they go to College! The Married Granddaughters received Irons as Shower gifts, but I would bet they are still in the Box five years later!
