New Director of Executive Golf Maintenance in The Villages

The online news has a new news story that states the Villages has hired a new director of Executive Golf Maintenance. Let's hope this is the beginning of a return to decent conditions for the Executive courses. I guess only time will tell?

He/she will need the wisdom of Solomon, the patience of Job and the work ethic of a thousand beavers.

Good luck to him/her.

I hope he is given a budget he can work with.

I don't share the optimism of some of my fellow Villagers about this hire. 12 years experience in the airline industry then a superintendent job at a hotel golf course falls way short of what I think is required to effectively manage the maintenance of the 4 dozen or so execs in The Villages. Something just seems off, the hiring criteria, the agronomy education and work experience of the new guy... but I do hope for the best.

So true. Does he know dirt? Hopefully he can manage the right people for the job???

There are many perfect greens and there are many rotting greens. Poor maintenance is the reason. Same weather, different results. Find the reason being water, fertilizer etc. and fix the greens.

Leader

I believe the critical point is not his hiring but how good he is at employing real good green supertendent's. I remember a VP of a very large Corporation who played golf a lot and was unhappy with the condition of the Corporate Golf Course. He told the Golf Manager of the Course: "We are either not giving you enough money to maintain high standards or you are not able to handle the job, which is it" Another point is that the Manager was not hired to do the job but to Manage the job and delegate the work. The cleanest desk in any office should be the manager. If he is hiring and delegating properly he should not be "doing the work" but managing it. Let's hope he knows the greens Business as I believe the Village's is not under funding the maintenance.:ho:
