Netflix Drama - Charite

Has anyone else here watched this series? Not since Downton Abbey have I been so drawn in and captivated by a historical drama, or melodrama. There are two parts, each with six episodes: "Charite" and "Charite at War," which take place at the prestigious Charite (French word for charity) Hospital in Berlin, in different time periods. The first is set in the late 1800's when doctors are trying to isolate causes and find cures for tuberculosis and diphtheria. Their scientific failures and successes, personal lives and emotions, and the political-religious culture of the time, are all woven into the story. Three of the doctors: Behring, Koch, and Ehrlich, went on to win Nobel prizes for discoveries in bacteriology.

The second series, with different actors, is set against the backdrop of World War II and portrays the personnel of Charite struggling to operate the hospital and survive under the Nazi regime.

The acting, setting, photography are all excellent. The series is in German with English subtitles. The old buildings of Charite were destroyed in WWII, so the series was filmed in Prague.
