Cody’s Brownwood

I don’t usually comment but I feel compelled to discuss Cody’s in Brownwood. 11 guys went there tonight for dinner and it was the worst experience several of us have ever experienced in a restaurant. Yes 3 or 4 guys food was ok, but one guy never got his food, and several received their food cold. To get refills on drinks we had go to the bar and get them. Had the place been full it would have been tolerable, but it was a “slow” night.. when all this was brought to the attention of the manager she blamed everything on employees not showing up for work. Eventually we did receive a 20% discount on the bill, but it required intervention from the manager at the Mulberry Cody.
Many of us will write this restaurant off as a place to go as a group or individually.

JoMar 07-15-2019 08:54 PM

Only go there to pickup their deserts to take home.....a true example of a squandred opportunity.

Very similar experience at Codys Sumter on Friday eve. Will be a long time before we return .

Nothing new here. Some things never change.

Chatbrat 07-16-2019 06:12 AM

We stopped going to the same location while ago, we were seated @ the bar after getting our first round , the bar person ignored us--finally got his attention--he said they we're out of the vodka we had started drinking with-untrained help is one of the biggest problems in all restaurants here

dewilson58 07-16-2019 06:31 AM

What it is, is what it is.................

A place with too large of a menu, serving pre-packaged bar food.

Sometimes good, sometimes not so good.

Very popular place for many.

We’ve crossed off Cody’s of places we want to eat at. A few years ago when we had a home in Oak Run Ocala we went to Cody’s quite a few times and it was very good. Here in TV we stay away from Cody’s. One of the last times we went to the one in Mulberry my wife’s ribs were never heated they were ice cold. My meal wasn’t so good either. We have friends who told us they were trying really hard to like Cody’s because they lived close by to Mulberry but they too kept getting meals less than satisfactory.

Chatbrat 07-16-2019 07:39 AM

I have a friend who lives real close to the Cody's in Mulberry, as a waitress was trying to serve a platter of ribs, the ribs fell of the plate , landed on the floor, she picked it up ,put it on the plate--they walked out--you can't make this stuff up

Cody's has some good qualities, I enjoy listening to Take Two on Saturday afternoons at LSL Codys from 1pm to 4pm. We've probably gone five times in the last 8 weeks. Ronnie is great on the keyboard and with the band in the box backup, the duo can play anything from Lady Antebellum to Prince. Ronnie is also a great comedian, my favorite is when they play Louie Louie by the Kingsman, but he calls them the Klansman, for a black fellow that is funny. They're always wearing neat matching Hawaiian shirts and outfits.

We've been Codys customers in The Villages from day one at LSL, and now Brownwood. We've seen mostly good employees( but not all ), mostly good meals ( but not all ), and for the most part, good store managers. Over the past few months, we have opted for drinks, wings, salads, and bar burgers at the bar, versus taking a chance on a full dinner. It is extremely difficult to hire and maintain a good and reliable staff that can pass a drug test. It took Bluefin and now The Chop House several months to staff up. But, if you are in the restaurant business, you've got to figure this out. Customers want good meals in a clean establishment, with no excuses.
Back to Codys, my humble opinion is... The owner(s) have expanded beyond their capabilities operating four locations. And they put alot of faith and trust in regional management that appears to be all fluff, no substance. I sincerely wish them well, and we'll go back for drinks and wings, but they need customers buying dinners, and I don't trust them for that.

MorTech 07-16-2019 02:20 PM

It's not just Cody's that can't keep an "enthusiastic" staff in TV. Why do you think that is?

600th Photo Sq 07-16-2019 04:50 PM

There are many threads regarding " Cody's " most of them on the negative side. Yet the Die Hard Flock keep going there, and keep ignoring all the obvious.

No point in me repeating my previous comments, this new thread backs up those comments.

Kerry Azz 07-17-2019 07:27 AM

I was a 5-5 times a week customer, mostly ordered from the bar menu my last time there I witnessed a kitchen employee walk out of the bathroom stall after he flushed and never washed his hands. I’m a former restaurant owner and I’m well aware this happens but I’ll never go back again.

Lottoguy 07-17-2019 09:00 AM

We ate their last month and will NEVER go back. Food was terrible! BYE BYE!

justjim 07-17-2019 09:45 AM

As others have noted from time to time, the largest problem any restaurant manager has is keeping good staff. It is a very serious problem in The Villages. Too many restaurants and not enough help. I have no answers... if you pay more salary to get good help you have to charge more for the food and Village residents seem to have a “thing” about paying more than a certain amount for their food and service. No good answers...

jlongman 07-19-2019 09:51 AM

I have heard this same story over and over again. I have had plenty of bad experiences there myself and I stop going. This has been going on since the beginning and every time the manager says, "this is not the way we do business, we are better than that"... Guess what, you're not. Lousy management, poor grinning, no oversight

Cheap happy hour can't save this place--lousy mgt--killed Hacienda Hills and cause an owner change @ Legacy, Havana & the Glenview--Cody's corp. mgt may save the day

:) I have to agree with the Brat on this one.....lousy mgt--killed Hacienda Hills and Glenview CC's.
At least I think that is what he was saying.

Unless I had been there to witness this event, I follow the old axiom of "I never believe anything I hear, and only half of what I read".

Chatbrat 07-22-2019 03:43 AM

The gentleman who told me about the "ribs" lives within walking distance of the Mulberry , he said he would never set foot in the place, it happened right after they had just opened--zero training for servers

Barryb46 07-22-2019 05:22 AM

Lousy food and even worse service. Closed several times for health violations. Wouldn’t go there even if some else was buying. Too many other choices.

This place was a great place when they first opened. After a few weeks, the place got dirty, failed many inspections, forgot what Customer Service was all about. Changed managers several times, but for some reason, they just don't get it. Once asked to upgrade to a Cesar Salad and was told it was a $7.48 up charge...which is the regular price of a Cesar Salad. Of the 3 Cody's in our area, the Mulberry location seems to be the only one with consistent service. Unfortunately, the quality of the steak offerings is nothing like Longhorn, Outback, or Texas RoadHouse as far as quality. Hard to find a positive review of Cody's in the last 2 years! Too many other choices.

Not making an excuse but I have heard the same explanation of employees not showing up for work. The restaurants here have a tough go trying to get good workers. They show up for 2 weeks and then call in sick time after time. Again no excuse buts its sad that people dont want to work and the establishment cant fire them because then they really would be short of employees. I too have have had poor service at Codys and until they can get a good work force ( which may be Never) I choose not to go there.

Houselover 07-22-2019 09:03 AM

Your not safe with takeout either. I ordered 4 fajita dinners took them home and discovered that all I had was fajitas with chicken but no vegies or sour cream. I call the Brownwood manager who said he would void my credit card transaction. Well this never happened so I disputed the charge with my credit card company. They won't be getting my business anymore!~

Brynnie 07-22-2019 01:53 PM

No way!

We wrote Cody’s off years ago, when we ate at the one in Sumter Landing. Flies were everywhere, so many it was impossible to keep them from landing on the food, straws, and tables. Service took forever, and the food was on the low side of mediocre. The clincher was when we read in the paper the number of health violations this restaurant had—live roaches and rats in the kitchen, among other things. Yuck! Will never go there again!

That was our experience, as well as LSL. Have never been to any of the others or had any desire to try them.

BostonRich 07-22-2019 04:32 PM

We've given Cody's in Mulberry several chances and we have had it. Food is terrible. We will not go back and we were very excited when they came to our area. I will not be surprised to see them close down.

600th Photo Sq 07-22-2019 06:56 PM

And the " Faithful Flock " keep going back to prop them up, smile make polite conversation, I put it down to " Stockholm Syndrome " .

The place is a Dump.

BobnBev 07-22-2019 10:33 PM

On the bright side, we had dinner tonight at Arnold Palmer's. Great steak and lobster, terrific waiter, very quiet dining room. The bill was very reasonable, and I tipped him 33%.:bigbow:

DReifinger 07-23-2019 06:50 AM

We used to go there all the time. Had a couple of not so good experiences, but the last straw was when we took guests last year. It was not crowded at all. The food was not right and the service was awful. That was in LSL. Haven't been back since.

xcaligirl 07-23-2019 12:38 PM

Cody's Mulberry is horrible, tried to like it one too many times. Service and food were so bad. We won't be going back again! Seems like a trend with all the Cody's, I thought it was just Mulberry!

Chatbrat 07-23-2019 05:31 PM

Absentee owner that is clueless--recipee for failure

JRichm369 07-23-2019 07:55 PM

We moved into the villages in Sept. 2014 CODY's was the best bar food place we had found. Over the years that we have been here we had enjoyed, lately things have been sometimes good as well as sometimes bad they have deteriorated to a point that we do not go there any longer.deteriorated to the point

Aloha1 07-23-2019 08:07 PM

Sounds like there might be 3 restaurant spots coming available soon. If so, let's hope the developer vets the bidders better this time around.

wv25071 07-29-2019 07:01 AM

Same thing for me. I was just 1 person on this last trip and it took 20 mins to get a cola, 40 mins to get my steak and 20 mins after finishing to get my bill about 1 year ago. The employees were not working at all. They were standing around talking and a few were taking care of, what appeared to be regulars at the bar, so my husband nor I go there anymore as the food and service isn't worth the time or money.
This isn't the only time for the Cody's in Brownwood issue. I try a place 3 times and if the issue continues it's a strike out for me to never return.

600th Photo Sq 07-29-2019 10:04 AM

Cody's allows peanut casing's being tossed onto the floor, a sure 100% recipe for rodents, flies, etc. To the Faithful Flock who choose to ignore ..." Enjoy "

KeithDB 08-24-2019 08:37 AM

We went to Cody's in Brownswood once and we will not go back. The service was abysmal. After waiting half an hour for a server to so much as even look at us I finally confronted one. The food was cold when finally served, the ribs were just bad (didn't like the sauce) and the food was otherwise just mediocre. Not a pleasant dining experience and won't do it again. Gators was much better.

JoMar 08-24-2019 10:22 AM

Cody's was a go to place.....haven't been there in over a year for meals. We do stop for take out deserts now and then which I assume are made by some other company. The peanut shells should be a non issue IF they clean them up at night. There are several places in this country that have that as part of their atmosphere but they clean every night.....in PA actually had a place called the Peanut Bar.
