Back to your original question, you might want to try a Google search, possible ultrasonic pest repellelers might work. You could look around your yard to see what is attracting them, and possibly remove or trim? There are devices utilities use (with mixed success) to control squirrels, these typically look like 2 or 3 inch spike strips that are about 10 feet long. You would attach along the roof line of the birdcage. It will not stop them climbing the sides but might keep them of the top.

Solar powered ultrasonic, flashing light, motion detector from Amazon - seems to work for my next door neighbor.

Live trapping and relocation seems the most effective method per a Google search - good luck!

I did a Google search on "squirrel control methods" and found several possible solutions, hope this helps.

We had anti-bird devices installed by our screen installer that seem to be keeping the squirrels off our cage. I can't determine whether it's the shiny stuff or whether it's the awful weather, but we've had no big birds and no squirrels for the last month. The installer was Christopher Prunty, owner of Pinnacle Aluminum Construction, 352-434-2402.
