We are considering having a water filter system installed. Any recommendations? Pros/Cons

We used a Nova Filter whole house system. Works great.

Another big THUMBS UP for Nova! We have had their systems in both Villages homes we've owned. No need to ever buy bottled water again. Total cost (Including softener) is about a third of what the "water experts" who knock on your door want. Only way to go.

Nova is the most popular in TV.

Another vote for Nova. Our water wasn't exactly bad or anything before getting the filters, but our clothes come out of the wash cleaner and our water definitely tastes better since getting the Nova whole-home filtration.

Another vote for Nova. It eliminated the smell coming from the faucet water in less than a day. I can now drink faucet water and use my own bottles to refill. I am so pleased with this small system that takes up very little wall space in the garage. Along with that they installed a whole house water shutoff in a place I can actually reach. They will come change the water filters. The price was very reasonable. Nova is 352-566-2649.

If you are somewhat handy, you can do this yourself. Parst are available at your nearby hardware store. That being so, we had our installed by Kiley and Sons. I would highly recommend them for any plumbing needs. Whole house filter systems are highly recommended in this area, because of the high concentrations of calcium in the water, which can lead to kidney stones.

NOVA. The Wave to go!

Had a Nova system installed 3 weeks ago. Love it. Very efficient people.

I installed the water softener and whole house water filter in my current house. We are moving to TV soon, and based on my research here NOVA is the way to go. The price includes installation and is very reasonable mark up over buying quality parts and DIY. For example, I purchased and installed a water softener like the one he installs and paid $700. He charges $999 and includes installation. $300 to not have to deal with that tank, cutting into the house water line, complying with the drain code requirements etc, is reasonable. The whole house filter can be found for around $300 or so, he charges $550 or so, again worth the difference to me.

Don't forget there are continuing costs with these. salt for the water softener (about $4 to $8 per month) and about $100 per year to replace the whole house cartridges. (Again you can save some money by purchasing lower quality parts - but, you get what you pay for.)

What is the primary reason for filters? Is the primary thing that people are trying to accomplish is to remove is Calcium?

Water softening aside, because that is more than a FILTER. Is Calcium that big of a problem? I thought a lot of people take EXTRA calcium for bone health (please forgive my ignorance in this area).

I installed the 3 stage whole home filter system from Express. (Standard 3 Stage Whole House Water Filter | Express Water). It's only $399, and is easy to install. The specs are the same (or better) than the Nova system, and there is a pressure gauge for each filter - not just one for the whole system. This gives you the option to replace each filter as it is actually needed as opposed to replacing all 3 at the same time regardless of whether all 3 need it or not.

Installation took me about an hour, and I spent ~$25 at Lowes for plumbing, disconnects, and PVC glue.

It works fantastic - the water tastes better than any of the bottled water we have had.

I understand TV is on a municipal water supply which means chlorine is added. I want the Whole House filter to remove that and any other chemicals that find their way into it. Filters do not remove calcium, that is the water softeners job.

Also, for anyone worried about the salt in the water softener there is VERY LITTLE left in the water and studies have shown it is safe, even for people on salt restricted diets.
