Blinded By The Light 3.75 Stars
 

I really liked "Blinded By The Light". Set in the town of Luton, England in 1986-87, Javed, a teenager of Pakistani origin, discovers the music of Bruce Springsteen. The British economy is not good at this time, and Javed buts heads with his father constantly about his plans to attend college and become a writer.

Although this movie is not a rock star biopic like "Bohemian Rhaposdy" or "Rocketman", it is set a few years after those movies and features a lot of Bruce Springsteen's music and music of the 1980's -- great soundtrack.

I did not recognize any of the actors, but all of them did a great job portraying the economic and racial/social tensions occurring in Britain during the late 1980's.

If you are a Bruce Springsteen fan or just want to head back in time 32 years, I highly recommend this movie. . . 3.75 stars out of 4.

Will probably wait for the Blu-Ray and buy that. Sounds like something I would want to watch more than once.

i really enjoyed it, too. not as good as The Overcomer, but very good.

What is The Overcomer about?

Saw this one with captions for $5.00 at the Old Mill Playhouse. All of the Villages' movie theaters offer this for the captioned Monday movies.

They actually helped sometimes with what they were saying.

Enjoyed the movie quite a bit and finally placed Hayley Atwell as one of the actors. She plays the English teacher. :popcorn:

The Overcomer is about a young black athlete who has been estranged from her father, thinking he is dead. It is a Christian film but not at all sugary or preachy, a beautiful story and well acted. Also touches on the hardships in a small town when their manufacturing plant closes and people move away.

Thanks. I like some Christian films. Some not so much.
