Need Ideas on Recliner Repair.

We bought a Laz-y-Boy leather recliner 3 years ago.
A few month ago cracks were starting to appear in the leather.
Now it has peeled in two places about 12" square.
The factory said it was from body and hair oil.

We thought of cutting a piece from the back and trying to glue it
over the area. Slip covers are a constant hassle.
Does anyone have any thoughts on how to fix or make it look better?
Thanks for any help.

Call Mike Diaz, 352-425-4799. He may be able to repair it.

I believe you don't have genuine leather, but a simulated leather or bonded leather. I had to throw away a love seat and sofa after 3 years for the same reason. I heard from a furniture repair man that there is nothing you can do for it except get rid of it and only buy genuine leather although much more expensive.

Bonded leather is a very thin leather with a fabric backing. If that is what you have, it is not worth repairing. It is also not worth buying again. But, if it is genuine leather, a leather repair expert, like Mike Diaz, can repair it. Also, most genuine leather furniture only has real leather on the seats and arms. So, the back and sides are probably vinyl, not leather.

I don’t remember the name of my leather recliner, i’ve Had it for 24 years, not crack in it. Only think I had to do other than normal leather cleaning was clean out the roller bearing from all the dust over the years. That my friend is real finger pincher if you’re not careful.

There is an excellent re-upholster/rebuild shop in Wildwood. I have forgotten their name. They are on 301, on the right going south, in the building with a train painted on the side of it....

Excellent craftsmanship.
