Just had a special evening out. Rather than drive to Ocala for a quality restaurant we decided to try The Chop House. Overall the meal was good but, unfortunately, I selected the 12 oz. N.Y. Strip steak. Mt fault, I should have asked the price (not shown on the menu) but the 9 oz. Filet Mignon was around $25, how much could a 12 oz. N.Y. Strip cost? Well, under the label of Halpen's'
(who ever they are) the strip cost $54.00. Wasn't any better than the strip I buy at Publix's. The last guy didn't make it with $20. burgers I hope they can make it with $54. steaks. Ruth's Chris it's not.

OUCH!! I’m sure it’s not Capital Grille quality either. Thanks for the heads up we are having guests in town this Sunday, one of them mentioned the Chop House. Looks like we’ll find another restaurant.

I have eaten at Chop House at least a dozen times and the food and service have been excellent. My husband the prime strip and he thought it was good as Capital Grille. It is listed under a section featuring prime meat. He asked the price before ordering.

I think they should put the prices on the menu. It's kinda like some breakfast places that don't have the coffee and other beverage prices on the menu. It's deceptive.

The prime comes from a ranch in the Midwest and is market priced. There are 3 items separated on the menu and it states MKT for the price. Every other item on the menu has a price.

Tried it once their drink policy , caused us to walk out $12.65 for a really short pour--Fred 's other places give full pour of the same vodka for $10.00

It is made obvious the "special" beef is a different and higher price. Set those aside all other pricing on the menu is reasonable.

Yes they do a jigger pour which is pretty stingy. A jigger of cognac barely covers the bottom of the glass!!! Ten and twelve dollars for a sip or two...No Thanks.

Drinks issue aside, they are on a par and perhaps a cut above many of the CC in TV.

I only drink wine and the wine pours are fine. Forgot to mention the desserts are excellent.

If we ever go back it will be wine for us, too

The food and service are great. They have good wine.

Their steaks really don't impress me, I buy prime steaks, a lot bigger than they offer-I can crank my grill to 1000 degrees for a good seal and roast them after that with butter on top--cooking steaks is not rocket science-- we go out to eat for what we don't cook @ home--Admiral doesn't like fish but I love fish

You fell right into their trap. Not publishing some of their prices is a rip-off. Don't patronize places that don't show prices. "Market Price" is a gimmick. It sometimes translates to "Over Priced". The price of beef does not change every day.

To make you feel even worse, a 14 (not 12) oz. NY Strip Steak at Capital Grille, goes for $30 with a side dish. (That's 44% less, for 17% more.)

We should all complain about this bad practice of "surprise billing".

A USDA Prime NY Strip goes for $9.99 - $11.99/lb at COSTCO. Like Chat, I prefer to grill my own. Now if I could only find some morel mushrooms down here for my Morel sauce....
