Proper footware on golf courses?
 

My wife and I are not golfers but she wants to start. She was wondering if golf shoes are required or can you wear tennis or athletic shoes. Inquiring minds want to know...

Tennis or athletic shoes are fine, golf shoes are not required. The most important thing is that the shoes you wear will not damage the greens. There are many types of golf shoes that look so much like sneakers it is hard to tell the difference. The only advantage of golf shoes is that they are designed to slip less when swinging, especially when the ground is wet.

I own a pair of golf shoes, and only use them when the course is wet. My tennis shoes are more comfortable.

Also depends on how good you become. Since a golf swing is all about torque and leverage having a firm plant is important if your skill level is good.....as a beginner, not so much. Also, not so much on Executive Courses unless they are wet.

Just be careful when wet if wearing tennis shoes.

Walking shoes for me. Helps with the "quiet feet".

For the early morning tee times (when it is cooler) the grass is heavy with dew. The dew can last until mid-morning. You want a shoe with some water resistance.

The good thing about the dew is that you can find your ball after it rolls in the grass by following the track in the dew.
