REAL ID, Passport cards, Passport.

Passport, Passport Card Or REAL ID? | AAA SoCal

Have people been getting ready for the October 1, 2020 Real ID deadline?

I got mine but looks like I would need a passport card to travel into Canada, Mexico and other North American destinations.

You are correct, and that rule has been in effect for a long time, before the Real ID issue even came up--2009.

You can't go wrong with having and carrying a passport.

Have not ever obtained a passport. Been in US only since I was a teen but did go to Guadalajara, Mexico and Niagara Falls when much younger than now. Guadalajara - Wikipedia. We took a train down there from Nogales.

No need for ID on DL if you have a passport. I can get on a plane or Canada or anywhere with passport, DL will only get me on a plane. Also have military ID for TSA

If you got a Florida license (new or replaced) in at least the last 3 (probably longer) years you are OK. Didn't even notice the "star" on it till I looked very close. Got it 3yrs ago.

Good to hear.

I provided my baptismal certificate as the only identification to get my license in 1967. Things, (a common trust) have changed.

If you travel to Canada or Mexico frequently you can get a Passport ID card which both Canada and Mexico accept. Eliminates the need to carry your passport and is about the same size as your drivers license so fits in your wallet.

My Dad got a REAL ID even though he was born at home in a suburb of Chicago. He got it a few years ago. Just a Florida ID not a driver's license. New Florida ID Cards | Florida-Assistance.org

A small plane crashed near their back yard the same day.

Your dad must have had to jump through many hoops to get his REAL ID. Those clerks at the county are ruthless!

He got it done at the Sheriff/County Building on CR466 just west of Morse. I had to drive him there as he no longer can drive due to a physician taking away his license. She contacted the State to have it pulled a number of years back. They were very friendly there. He had the needed documents ready. I made sure we had everything before we left.

The people there were also quite nice when I got my REAL ID. They ask quite a lot of questions.

The passport cards are only good for walking or driving across the borders of Canada and Mexico. If you fly, you still need to use the actual passport, or you can't board the airlines.

My bad...that is correct but we have always driven to Canada.
