Need an extra key for a 17 Toyota Corolla

Hi, can't find my extra key. I see I can get one on Amazon.com for about $17. Ace Hardware sells them for $89 without the fob & will program it for me. Any suggestions on which way to go?

When I had a Jaguar I lost my key - it was a programmable that also powered the remote starting (so I could warm up the inside on a sub-zero day in the winter, without having to leave the house to do it). I got the replacement from the dealer. I think it set me back around $100 but at the time it was worth it.

You guys got a bargain--wife's niece needed a key for a Lexus $700.00+

Once upon a time, keys were pretty plain, no electronics or fancy shapes. You could go to the local keymaker booth in Sears with your original, and get a duplicate made for $2. You can still get duplicates from key booths wherever you find them, just not for cars anymore. And I think they run around $5 now.

You can try a local locksmith, some of the keys can be programmed simply, some require the dealer to do the programming, like VW. I would bet the $17 ones from Amazon will not work correctly.

Thanks, All. Ended up going to Ace Hardware at Southern Trace. I had read the instructions for programming an Amazon bought key and thought I could screw them up easily. Would probably take about a 1/2 to get this done but Ace was busy, so with interruptions it took about an hour. $89 + tax. Was almost the same as the Toyota dealer, but without the hour-long round trip to Leesburg.
