Poor dogs

So we are new here but have visited a few times and have seen this time after time. We were in brownwood tonight and there were lots og people for whatever was going on down there and there are stupid dog owners there with their poor dogs. First its loud, 2nd its hot, they have a fur coat, 3rd tons of people, 4th hot cement and not 1 of them had water for their animals. I love my dogs enough to leave them home were they will be comfortable. I feel sorry for the dogs and when i say something to the owner about water for the dog they look like im the stupid one.

I think it's stupid too. I took my dog many years ago one time to LSL. He was in a stroller with a water dish. He didn't enjoy it a bit.

WELCOME and don't worry. Everybody loves their dogs here as it's always a designer dog show around town. Dogs are #1 (well, #2 also :) ). How many dog bakeries are there vs people bakeries? Dogs must be like people because very often there are cute little dogs with ribbons, skirts, boots and even sunglasses sitting their cute little butts ON the tables in front of Starbucks at LSL where lots of us actually use the table for food. They get driven around in baby carriages that cost as much as a semester in college. Last year there even was a pig on a leash at Brownwood. Likely more dogs than people. No one mistreats dogs here.

LOL about the stroller I can just visualize it ... I kept the baby carrier I used for my daughters as babies for my Welshie... only used it when he got very old but still wanted to go to the nearby park and couldn’t make it back home.

When I bring my dog anywhere I have water and a bowl. Many of the vendors and store owners have bowls of water out for the dogs. The pavement was not hot yesterday afternoon. M dog was groomed at Brownwood yesterday. I walked him around the square he was not panting or in any type of distress.

Your dog does NOT like being in the squares, no more than he/she likes wearing clothes. Your dog does like being with YOU, but I doubt if he/she is thrilled about being in crowds. Also, do you really want strangers petting your dog? They may have a cold, the flu, whatever..

My dog is very happy in the Squares and never wears clothes. If it is crowded I pick him up and carry him. Dogs can not catch a cold or flu from a human.

Florida's weather IMHO..Is exposing pets to an inhumane environment

I'm pretty sure my dog can go a couple of hours without water. Sometimes at home I even put them (gasp) outside in the Florida sun. I have 2 spoiled Scotties and treat them well but I do realize that being with me in a public environment for an hour or two is OK.

My two cents is, that it is the owners who are parading and looking for attenion, not the dogs!

JSR22 10-19-2019 12:30 PM

No

I do not take my dog places for attention. He gets groomed in Brownwood and I walk him at the square before and after. A couple of times a month we take him to the Farmers Market in Brownwood. He likes being out and getting petted. My intent is for him to become a therapy dog and socialization is necessary.

I bring my dog to the square occasionally and she LOVES it. Never when it’s too hot or too crowded and I always have water for her. Plenty of people stop by to say hello and it’s so much fun for her. I am considerate of people who would rather not have dogs around them so she is kept by my side and not allowed to approach anyone unless they initiate it. I enjoy seeing dogs at the squares, but wish all dog owners would be responsible. Drives me crazy to see little ones scampering around on retractable leashes while their human isn’t paying attention!

I totally agree. I don't own a retractable leash I think they are dangerous.

Any dog on a retractabl leash, is NOT under control.
No service dog will be on a retractable leash, unlike some you see on one, and with a Service Dog jacket.
Truly pees me off, and I always confront such owners.

Retractable leashes are unsafe. I use to own a dog business and did not allow prong collars or retractable leashes.
