So if the taxes in Sumter county are being raised by 25%. How do Sumter taxes compare to other counties in the Villages?

Still 4th lowest in the state and lower than Marion or Lake County.

Should be mailed by November 1st. You get a 4% discount if you pay by November 30th.

You should have gotten a trim notice that detailed the increases at 6.7 Mil rate. A lot of us were reassessed and the damage is even worse. Oh well, still very low by most standards. Hopefully they keep by their word that this is the only increase for 5 years.

Probably not many developers building +55 communities in the county.

Sumter county’s taxes are low for many reasons. Most of the county’s population resides in TV which means there should be no school age children to educate. School costs are a large part of real estate taxes most places. And is that just one reason.

Low, high or somewhere in between, the increase and no doubt much of the existing taxes lay much of the costs of development on the backs of Sumter County taxpayers which puts money in the developers pockets at the expense of all taxpayers.

Comparing Sumter County taxes to those in Miami, Palm Beach, Orlando and Tampa or notoriously high tax states such as NY, NJ, MA, MD, CA and the like and saying they are lower here than they are there is silly.

The Sumter County tax does not include the Wildwood City Taxes in the new area, the maintenance fees, bond fee, or school tax. These appear on the property tax bill. There's also the amenity fee which is separate from the tax bill. All worth considering if you are working out a budget.

I don't think that it is silly at all. Home costs, taxes, fees, utility costs all important comparisons That play a part in choosing where to live.

Sumter county has 140,000 residents, probably not all homeowners though.

And Oshkosh, Wisconsin had a population of 66,665 (2017):shrug:

I guess I have to connect the dots. A LOT of people are interested and/or affected.
