Best Dr for Cataract surgery

Can anybody recommend the best Doctor or Eye institute to perform cataract replacement surgery. Will have to have both eyes done in the near future. Look forward to your recommendations and other things to consider prior to surgery such as type of lens, transition lens, cost not covered by medicare and secondary ins etc.

Just a heads up. Several local eye doctors are demanding that you sign away your right to a jury trial in any alleged malpractice event and instead settle for binding arbitration. As you will not win a malpractice case unless there is a deviation from the standard of care and the cost of malpractice insurance is a tiny fraction of the expenses of an ophthalmologic practice I urge caution.

You wouldn't get in a taxi cab if the driver said, before I drive you I demand you sign a paper that you won't be able to sue me if I run a stop sign, crash, and you are injured and instead will just settle for arbitration. I'll take the next cab instead.

I don't want a doctor who is viewing me as a potential lawsuit even before the operation. Don't make a mistake and you won't have to worry about our tort system.

Dr. Scot Holman, Lake Eye Associates, (352) 750-2020, Offices in Sharon Morse Medical building but also has offices outside The Villages. I go to Leesburg because it's outside The Villages. His office at the Morse Medical Building is always booked out since Villages can take a golf cart to see him. I have been going to Scot for 5 years, had both eyes done and am completely satisfied. I understand Ireland is also good and you can use your golf cart to go to her office.

I think Ocala Eye is wonderful.

I was very frightened about having someone do surgery on my eyes. Dr. Armstrong is not only well educated and well qualified but very warm and kind as well.

I agree. Had two removed about a year apart. Other than apprehension, almost a pleasant experience, especially the improved eyesight. Perhaps a more important question is what kind of lens replacement?

Dr. Mark Jank, Ocala Eye. He is the Senior surgeon there, and has done both my husband's cataract surgery, and mine. Excellent results. I have the Multi-Focal lens and I can see distance and read without glasses. Pricey, but worth every cent. My husband eye's weren't good candidates for the Multi-Focal, so he has the regular Medicare lens. His distance sight is great, but he needs readers for smaller print.

I agree. But, for what it's worth, these contracts have been challenged in court, and the doctors have lost. Florida has a mandatory "non-binding arbitration" law for malpractice suits. If the patient doesn't like the arbitration decision, he/she can then sue the doctor in court. The courts have ruled that the "binding" arbitration agreements some doctors want you to sign are not enforcable because they are an attempt to circumvent the Florida law.
