What would be the best route to avoid the traffic between Wash-Balt going NB to NY? I heard something about picking up 301 in Va. off 95.
Any other routes going to NYC? Help appreciated.

We just took that route going to New Jersey. There was heavy traffic and lot's of red lights. (Slow)

My husband and I always took 301 between NY and Richmond, just because it was more interesting and lots of fun places to stop, have lunch, etc. But it definitely was not faster even 30 years ago, and many red lights, and if you miss the obscure turnoff outside of DC you are completely f***ed.

Definitely NOT faster, but we loved not getting lost in Washington! I liked the shopping!

Just north of Richmond head Northwest on I64 to I81 North into PA. Your choice then to take either I78 or I80 (to NYC) or to 287N to NYS thruway.

Probably about a 50mi detour but you avoid the Wash D.C., Baltimore corridor
