Very strange ... The website for UP Development states that they are a "premier retail developer."
Up Development | Retail Development, Shopping Center Development, Land Development
The site displays the same phone number shown on the signs.
Obviously, this is not retail.

I know I've read about this before and did a search and found several threads, in fact two of them were started by you, twoplanekid, so I guess you're persistent. After reading through all those old threads, I believe the answer was one I had read somewhere else as well. The developer built the Hampton Inn and a few homes and then had a fatal accident and that was the end of that project. I guess the heirs didn't have the ability to carry on, or just wanted to cash out.

I was curious a few months ago so drove back there. The few homes that were in there seemed finished but abandoned. Then a couple of days ago we drove by on 466 and I happened to look back there seeing more homes and perhaps another in the process of being built. My thought is...and I don't have a true answer...is someone is building them for people who may want to live near and not in The Villages.

From the Sumter County website:
In the pictures, the houses which are unpainted (grey/tan in color) are on lots owned by UP La Leesburg LLC. The lots were purchased in June 2018.

This is very weird -- the house that is "pink" with an almost black roof was purchased by The Villages in August 2019. What?

From the information on the sign and banners, absolutely YES.

I believe this is true. I do remember though that particular developer fell from a crane near the third floor, either from the Hampton Inn or the office building to the west.

Sign there said they are being built to rent.

I called the number listed (407-270-7628). The nice lady who took the call stated that she and others don’t at this time have any specifics concerning costs and lease/rental time periods. She says that around 40 houses will be built. I asked her to send me the details when available to be able to let others know about these houses.

The owners (maybe the surviving heirs?) of this property seem to have begun making decisions.

In May and August 2019, they sold some of the parcels along the eastern property line to The Villages. The other side of that property line is the "compound" with houses of many Villages owners and execs. Maybe the Villages owners have bought a buffer?

I saw plans for an assisted living/memory care facility behind the 3-story office building, Liberty Plaza.

I was staying at Hampton Inn last month while work was being done at my house and drove through the neighborhood; it's kind of an eerie ghost town!

Thanks for following up on it, twoplane.
