Bottleneck tree canker?

My bottleneck tree has developed two growths at the branch axils. It's hard, like wood, and the size of a small golf ball. Any ideas? Should I excise the branch?

What is a bottleneck tree? Google was no help.

Thank you both for the correction and the diagnosis. You're 100% correct. I've already cut off the offending branches.
