Richie, as I'm sure you know, this was brought up by McCain during the presidential campaigns. McCain used it in conjunction with Obama's statements to Joe the Plumber. Remember Joe? Obama said, "The only thing that changes, is I’m gonna cut taxes a little bit more for the folks who are most in need and for the 5% of the folks who are doing very well - even though they’ve been working hard and I appreciate that – I just want to make sure they’re paying a little bit more in order to pay for those other tax cuts. Now, I respect the disagreement. I just want you to be clear –
it’s not that I want to punish your success – I just want to make sure that everybody who is behind you – that they’ve got a chance at
success too .”
"My attitude is that if the economy’s good for folks from the bottom up, it’s gonna be good for everybody. If you’ve got a plumbing business, you’re gonna be better off if you’re gonna be better off if you’ve got a whole bunch of customers who can afford to hire you, and right now everybody’s so pinched that business is bad for everybody and I think when you spread the wealth around, it’s good for everybody."

Obama's point was that the court's shouldn't get into the redistribution process based on an unfair Constitution. They'd make it too complicated. Obama said redistribution was a legislative matter.

What is hilarious is the way Obama's team responded to McCain. Blame Bush. The Obama campaign, itself, directly responded with a statement from spokesman Bill Burton:

“This is a fake news controversy drummed up by the all too common alliance of Fox News, the Drudge Report and John McCain, who apparently decided to close out his campaign with the same false, desperate attacks that have failed for months. In this seven year old interview, Senator Obama did not say that the courts should get into the business of redistributing wealth at all. Americans know that the real choice in this election is between four more years of Bush-McCain policies that redistribute billions to billionaires and big corporations and Barack Obama’s plan to help the middle class by giving tax relief to 95% of workers and companies that create new jobs here in America. That’s the change we need, and no amount of eleventh-hour distractions from the McCain campaign will change that.”

But do remember they aim to re-distribute YOUR wealth
 

not theirs of their fellow politicians. Those that have it, and those who walk upon the backs of we the people will be totally and completely un-affected.
Please spare the response they will be paying more, if tempted.

Volunteers wanted
 

Many of the Obama supporters have enough money to retire comfortably here in The Villages. Being Obama supporters I assume that they agree with his re-distribution plan.

Why not have a test of the re-distribution concept by having the Democrats living in The Villages give some of their money to a re-distribution fund to be given to poor Democrats so they can also move to The Villages.

If it works out then the Republicans who are against re-distribution would have to agree to also share their money with poor Republicans.

I think your suggestion is a good one. Too bad we cannot enact the old rule that silence is a sign of agreement.

cashman, I proposed that sort of test during the healthcare debate: Why don't the 63.4 million who voted for Obama take care of just one of the 30 million "disadvantaged" who they said have no insurance. I didn't get any takers.

I don't think you'd get one Democrat who's living off a lucrative public pension fund to even consider the redistribution of their money, which is, in fact, funded off the backs of taxpayers which makes their monthly checks, incidentally, "redistribution of wealth".
