Disposal of alkaline batteries

Does anyone know where to dispose of alkaline batteries?

You can just throw them in the regular trash. There are no special requirements.

You might want to tape the battery terminals before you pitch them. There are numerous reports of fires that occurred with improper battery disposal. Here is one link to a 2014 report that you should consider. Here is a second link to a news report regarding the issue. You can do a "Google" search and find other reports as well.

:ho: Good tip. I think the problem was 9 volt batteries.

Thanks! Actually 9V is most thought of, but any alkaline battery is a potential issue. Here is a link to a Duracell Battery Care, Use, and Disposal webpage.

That’s funny that you mentioned to tape the contacts because I had one in my pocket one time when we went into Texas Roadhouse & the contacts got against a quarter in my pocket & my leg got very hot & I started to do “The watermelon Crawl”. Needless to say I laid it on my tray. I was always told to dispose of them to the fire dept. At least when I lived in Ohio the Fire Dept. we’re always glad to take them & dispose them.

Go down to the newer wawa to rolling acres dr take a left and there is lady lake convenience center on the left. They take everything from batteries to old paint. Old light bulbs etc.
Batteries Plus will take used batteries and dispose of them correctly.

Trashing your batteries isn’t a good idea.
Take them to Best Buy in Lady Lake

Lowe's and Home Depot have battery disposal bins at their store entrances.
