I've Figured It Out
 

I think I've finally figured out what makes tv so great. My wife and I recently purchased a new CV in Kingfisher Villas in Pennecamp, but because we are still trying to sell our home in Ohio and because my wife has developed some health issues, we can only get down there about once every 6-7 weeks. When we are there, we just love it. At first I thought it was because of all the clubs we can join, or the great golf, or just reading by the pool, or happy hour at the town square with live music. But then I realized that it's the people. It's the neighbors I hardly know that have gone out of their way to welcome us. It's the strangers that start up a conversation and turn into friends in just a few minutes. It's all of you!!

I couldn't agree with you more. It's the people that make TV the best community. I hope your wife's health issues ameliorate. Best wishes to her and to you. I'm sure your home will sell. Unfortunately, it takes superhuman patience in this housing market!

I understand the confusion. I am confused, too -- especially considering the fact that earlier today I almost logged on to ask a gardening question. (That is a fact. - - I do not make this stuff up.) I have a new plant that is just plain bad so far, and I thought about asking here if anybody knew anything about Monarda "Grand Parade" - a pink bee balm that is out there in the yard acting just awful. I'm about to take a shovel to it.

But in spite of the sudden urge to ask a gardening question this morning, I do not think my name is "Bloomer."

Boomer, wish I could solve your plant problem, but no green thumb here. Thank you for the welcome. I'm really enjoying getting to know all of you.

Boomer, this might help.

"The best way to grow all prairie flowers is form seed. This is because most prairie flowers develop strong, deep roots. Transplanting must be done with care. Prairie flowers do best when they can establish themselves right in place as small seedlings. When planted early enough in the season, many prairie flowers can bloom in their first year.

"Monarda seeds are carefully selected for color and hardiness. It is easy to sow them directly in the soil, or start them in very small pots outside. As long as the plants are placed in their permanent place before they have more than six true leaves, there will be no problem with root disturbance. Just "plunk" them in the ground, give them plenty of water to start out, and they will thrive almost immediately. that is one of the greatest things about native flowers- they just seem to do well anywhere there is good sun exposure.

"Larger plants can be transplanted without complications, as long as the roots are given plenty of TLC in the process. Treat them gently, and be sure to leave plenty of the original soil to help them establish in their new home.

" If plants do happen to have some problems, there are some quick fixes that can help. Be sure the soil is not too rich, or too thin. If it is draiaing too quickly, add some organic matteer in theform of compost or well aged manure. Do NOT fertilize Bee Balm. Soil that is too rich will make these native wildflowers droopy and weak ."

Oh my gosh! I think you've got it.

There are two droopy and weak Monarda out in my yard who are weakly and droopily calling to you. If you listen closely, you might be able to hear what they are saying........ "Thank you. Thank you, bkc. This Boomer woman has no patience with us. Sometimes she is like the Red Queen. It is so scary when she shouts, 'Off with their heads' if we do not do what we are supposed to do around here. There were once three of us new bee balms here. We are pink ones. But the third one.......well.......it was not pretty. And we think that she likes the coneflowers better than any of us. They get by with stuff we can't. She even has a couple of uppity green coneflowers. How pretentious is that. Talk about a prairie flower gone to town. Geez. So thank you, bkc, because of your answer we just might get another chance.".....

Did you catch that, bkc? I think you answered my question. I have been giving them the leftovers from the sprinkling can when I take care of the annuals in the patio pots to keep them blooming. Looks like I was too nice to those prairie flowers. And I just thought they were acting all droopy and weak because they were not tough like their ancestors the red bee balm.

I think you just might have saved them with your post.
