Golf cart rentals during lifestyle visit

We will be visiting TV in August for a 5 night lifestyle visit. TV does provide one golf cart with the rental unit, however, we will be traveling with another couple and will need to rent another cart. I have been reading that the carts provided by TV are not that great. Should we bypass the freebie and and is it possible to rent carts for a 5 night stay? Thanks for your help.

The TV carts are fine. You can also rent an additional cart from them at the Sumter Landing store. The problem I had with them is that they were too slow to keep up on the paths with the other carts and they lacked side curtains for weather. From what I'm told, the speed limit is 19.5 MPH and according to my GPS, they topped out at 14. I rented 2 carts from Scott at Grandpa & Grandma's Village Buggies and thought they were great. Plenty of speed and side curtains, plus their rates are lower than TV's. He also delivered them to my door. It's hard to turn down a freebie, but you might want to get one of his for yourself. His number is: Scott Prince 352-552-8478. Remember, if you go over the speed limit you can get ticketed, and I hear the the fines are pretty stiff, but it's nice to be able to keep up with the flow. Just use common sense and have a ball!!!:MOJE_whot:

The carts that are included with the lifestyle preview are new Yahama's with side curtins. They don't go the 19mph speed limit but are very nice and no need to not use their cart. The rental carts from The Villages Cart Shop are older models with no side curtins which is needed this time of the year because of rain.

Jim Followell rents nice carts with side curtins. His phone # is 352-259-7525. To read more about Jim go the the search area of the blue bar above and search his last name Followell. This way you can read about what other people who have used him think of his service.

Wjen I did a LSP in July 2009 the cart that came with the CYV did have side curtains and I did have to use them a couple of times. Also the cart was a little slow and the GPS recorded about 18 mph. The one thing I did notice was that it was noisy. I talked with the people at TV Golf Carts and found out that the carts were taken from golf courses and put into the LSP fleet. He stated that they have a gear set that is suited for the golf courses and not the open cart path. Later in the year I was back and this time I used a Yamaha gas cart and it would do the legal speed with not problem and was a lot quieter. The proper gear set always helps.

But then again the cart was free as it was included in the LSP.

The golf carts offered by TV are incredibly slow. Some have the Sunbrella (side curtains) package, some don't -- depends on how old the cart is. Considering we are hitting the rainy season, side curtains are a big deal. If you only plan to go to LSL and some golfing, I'd say stick with the rental and save the $$. However, if you plan to do a lot of wandering and exploring in the cart, rent a faster, better one. Here's another vote for Jim Followell -- he gives great service, has good carts at very reasonable prices and is an all-around good guy.

Jim Followell is the man. His carts have get up and go while the Village rentals crawl at the speed of a turtle with a broken leg. Jim will allow you to rent day by day or weekly. You get discounted prices on weekly rents. His phone number is listed in another post. Have no fear- Jim will be there. Call him.

If you are here for a visit to see TV slow is not so bad. We had a slow cart from TV and had lots of time to look around. Mrs Snowbirdtobe took it out for a spin. I could look around even with my foot to the floor all the time.

We used the carts provided on 2 LSVs and they were fine. Yes, they had side curtains. A little slow but we were in no hurry. No appointments, no deadlines. The lack of speed was more of an issue for those in carts behind us. I just pulled over frequently to let everyone pass then continued on my way.
When I'm on the road in my car I tend to have a heavy foot but for some reason, in TV everything was more relaxed.
