USPS or Fedex better?

I’m sending packages to myself from Buffalo, NY to TV. Which service would you recommend?

Valuable? The ones with the best insurance.
Not valuable? Cheapest.

Books and magazines, I was wondering about actually receiving them.

"BEST" in what way? Quite often FEDEX GROUND is much cheaper than USPS. In general FEDEX has always been more consistent. Fedex takes much larger and heavier packages than USPS as well,. I got a 200lb grill via FEDEX ground. :) USPS would never take it.

Oh, you didn't say that in your OP. For books and mags USPS MEDIA MAIL is absolute cheapest and sometimes takes forever and sometimes takes 2 days. Look at it as the "Spirit Airlines" of USPS services. :)

Books are heavy. Does Fedex deliver to the door or to Mallory the post office or do I have to go to a FedEx office to pick the package up if I was not home when they deliver?
It is a mixed package I also put in a vest for wearing in cooler weather.

Thank you for answering a newbie question. I understand that USPS uses both UPS and Fedex to deliver packages to the door. I was confused about whether they did that or deliver to the Neighborhood post office. And will they will leave it there if you are not at home if a signature is not required. They will. So now it’s just a matter of which one is cheaper.

You can't (technically or "legally") use USPS MEDA MAIL if there is clothing in the box. Fedex will def leave at your door as long as it isn't shipped "Signature Required" or with declared insurance over IIRC $500. USPS does NOT use Fedex to deliver, it's the other way around, Fedex (and UPS and DHL) have a service that drops at FEDEX center then transfers to local PO for "last mile" delivery. Sometimes it's actually more expensive. I ran a THE UPS STORE for 5 years so I am pretty familiar with most of the options as we worked with all the shippers.

Oh, I see, I guess I was misinformed. I was hoping someone would tell me what’s correct, and Ed you explained it.

Have always trusted UPS to deliver end to end with tracking, FWIW. They're often the cheapest, also.
