Stupid me
 

My wife and I were driving our cart home after some shopping in SL and we decided to check out the restuarant in the Country Club near us. I turned off the main road and got on the cart trail which I thought would allow me to get to the country club but instead I found ourselves on a cart path in a golf course. The path was narrow and I was not sure if I should go on the grass to make a U turn so I continued going forward in the direction I knew would eventually lead me to a road near my home.

I was soon overtaken by a nice gentleman in a cart who informed me that we were not allowed on the golf course. I wondered why not since we live here but rules are rules and I had no need to be there and informed the gentleman that we accidently got on the path and asked if he would kindly lead us to the country club which he did.

Now, not being a golfer and not knowing much about the sport other than it can lead to having a lot of hot mistresses (:smiley:), I kept wondring why I could not use the cart trail since all TV residents are automatically members of all the country clubs. My cousin who has lived here much longer than me informed me that there were golf cart trail fees and then it became all clear for me. I am happy that I nicely obeyed the request to leave the trail instead of defying authority as I am want to do when I think they are wrong. Something about TV has made me a nicer person. All of a sudden I say hi to strangers, wait patiently for carts to cross the roads when I am in a car and even will stop to let a cart go by. Darn, what is happening to me? :22yikes:

FYI: Autos have right of way over golf carts at intersections. When you stop to let golf carts thru you are disrupting the flow of traffic.

I do agree -- there is something about living here that just makes most people nicer. I also agree with Chuck -- do NOT stop and let golf carts go; cars have the right of way and it can cause rearenders if you stop for them. Yes, some people think they own the road in their carts (and do stop for those idiots -- some things aren't worth the fight) but, in general, do your business, the golf cart drivers will happily wait their turn.

LOL...you had quite an adventure, Vinny. Cart paths on golf courses are used by those playing golf only...here and on any course. It's for safety, you could get hit by a ball. Even if one is a member of any golf course, you can't ride the course if you're not playing. It's distracting to those who are golfing and can disrupt the normal "flow" of the game.

Around here, golf carts really don't have the right of way, though some who drive around, feel they do. While waiting for a cart to pass seems a nice thing to do, it does cause problems at the gates with automobile movement.

I know what you mean about being a nicer person...lol....it's nice to see everyone waving at another, even if you don't know them. My brother in law came out for a visit last year and I told him that everyone would wave and it would be nice if he waved back.... ;) He did remark how nice it was to see so many friendly people. TV really is a great place to live, isn't it.... :)

A good reason to stay off golf course cartpaths has to do with an anomaly suffered by most Villages golfers, at least the ones I play with. It is called gross directional deficiency. The tee box challenged, yours truly included, will frequently launch golf balls with great velocity off the tee. These supersonic missiles will frequently hook sharply or slice rapidly thereby crossing cartpaths and putting all targets on the cartpaths in their kill zone.

It is particularly hazardous while travelling against the flow on these paths. This sets up the possibility of full frontal head shots. For this reason, I never venture onto the golf course paths without front and rear bulletproof windows in the up position. Of course we are still exposed to broadside hits. Helmets are also recommended.

I have seen drivers exercise their right of way even if it meant running a cart off the road. I had it happen to me with a young child in my cart. Courtesy/safety trumps right of way in my book. I show carts courtesy when I am alone on the road and when I think the cart is driven by a more senior, senior citizen that may not have cat like reflexes. If I am not distrupting the traffic flow I will let a fragile cart with an 80 year old women behind the wheel go ahead of me. Just my nature.

It was my first time ever on a golf course. I do not hold up traffic and perhaps I should have been clearer about that. This is something I do when I am the only car at the gate. In fact I cannot recall ever having a car behind me at the gate. Perhsps that is because I am in a new section.

LOL. I've heard about that disease. Actually there was no one on the course. I think theta are called starter courses whatever that means.

I agree with Pooh...I always do...and I know it sounds inhospitable that they don't like for non golfers to ride the cart paths on the golf courses....but you have to understand the basic premise here Vinny. We have a sign above our bar that says "Golf is not a matter of life or death, It is MUCH more important than that!" So distracting a golfer in his or her backswing by riding by is very much not a good idea and possibly dangerous.

I know you didn't know that you even ventured onto the golf course, but once again, you are one lucky guy.

I don't think the danger of being in the wrong place on the golf course (on the cart path or otherwise) can be overstated. I am very thankful that no one was on the course and that you were not injured or worse.

Glad you are loving your decision to move to TV! I know how you feel. Whenever I'm in TV, I can't seem to wipe the smile off my face.

Thank You for sharing you little problem. You also made me laugh and that is good too. Even nicer is that you obeyed the rules.

During our Lifestyle Preview we had a cart to use for the week. One evening we made a wrong turn and ended up in a sand trap. Gracious Ambassador showed us our way out.

Made another wrong turn, and ended up going down Morse Blvd, frantically looking for a way off after realizing our mistake.

Later after becoming Villagers, we witnessed the exact same thing happening to some other poor newbies. Smiled and somehow, already felt like oldtimers.

Won't be long Vinny, you'll see.

I understand the mistake of getting on Morse, but I have to know, how does one end up in a sand trap? I hope you raked.... Keep in mind, I am laughing with you :beer3:

Have no idea how we got in the sand trap. It was near the cart path, and after trying to get our bearing......WALLA!!

I get in the sand trap all of the time, and believe me, I am not trying to get in the sand trap.
