The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
This DVD just came out on July 6, 2010. Quite good IMHO. I was not familiar with the book nor the trilogy except for scuttlebutt and opinions about them I noticed in Entertainment Weekly and in Villages' social settings.
It is in Swedish though. |
I hope the movie is easier to follow than the book. The names become very confusing but the premise of the story is great. I also heard it was sub-titled. Thanks for the review.

Dragon Tatoo
I am a big fan of the book and have read all three of them. I just saw the movie and loved it! It is subtitled, but we hard of hearing people love that!!.
|
I loved all three of the books. Where is the movie playing?

The US version as far as I know will not come out until...

The Swedish movie of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo just came out on DVD this week. Believe the Swedish films of the Trilogy came out in theaters in Europe around 2009. |
Just rented it on I Tunes. Now hope I can figure out how to download it. :-)
We used to have Netflix, but with our DVR found we seldom used it. So will try the I Tunes rental. |
The DVD of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo...
...does allow you to hear the dialog in English or Swedish. It did not seem dubbed to me. Maybe the actors did the lines in both languages??
There is an interview with the lead actress-- Noomi Rapace-- which is in English in the extras. She mentions that she has no interest in playing Lisbeth Salander in the US version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo which looks to still be in the planning stage. |
Just watched it in Swedish with the subtitles. Thought it was good, but so much was left out of the movie that was included in the book. I would think the movie would be hard to follow for those who haven't read the book.
|
We watched it for 10 minutes and turned it off. Only lost one dollar at Red Box. Would not recommend it.

read all the books
and liked them, although this is usually not my style of fiction. Too gruesome. Pageturners, though, and liked the protagonists. Did you know the books were all published posthumously? The author died of a heart attack, some felt there was more to it. In real life, Stieg Larson, the author, was an investigative journalist.

After all, V C Andrews who died in 1986 and Robert Ludlum who died in 2001 just keep on publishing new books.:read: "There's a backup plan: If U.S. movie audiences don't buy tickets to see The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo in Swedish, Hollywood is already gearing up for an English-language remake." http://www.npr.org/templates/story/s...ryId=124738531 http://starcasm.net/archives/57424 |
I could not get through it. First I tried it with the Swedish language and the subtitles and then I switched to the English dubbing and the subtitles but I could not get interested. So it lasted about 30 minutes.
I understand that they are making a remake with Daniel Craig. I will try it again when that version comes out. |
I had just started reading the book....and then we streamed it from Netflix. It was wonderful. The subtitles were fine.
