He was from the small city I grew up in. A legend to us.

I have no idea what he was like as a man, but boy was he good to look at :icon_wink:. I think of Mike Douglas and Spartacus comes to mind every time!

My immediate thought of him in the movies was "The Vikings" and one of my favorites
"Strangers when we Meet"

Last night on the rerun of Saturday Night Live on NBC Friday at 10pm, they ran the episode almost 40 years ago exactly. February 23, 1980 Kirk Douglas was guest host. This was the first skit and it was the funniest of the show. Gilda Radner was a stage hand and had taken her mother backstage to meet her idol, the great Kirk Douglas. They had Kirk kneeling and wearing shoes where his knees were, so he looked like he was 4' tall. He had on a ascot and a robe like a Hollywood star, he didn't even have a dimple on his chin. Then the makeup people came in, one was carrying legs and all kinds of gear, so the visitors had to leave.

Here's a behind-the-scene photo of Kirk without his dimple and shoes strapped to his knees.
