Car Waxing at home ?
 

Looking for someone who currently does auto waxing (at one's home). Don't need "interior detailing" as the car is just 8 weeks old. Just want a hard paste wax applied mainly to protect black finish from the upcoming love-bug season. :D Did a search and all the results I came up with were 1+ years old.

Any RECENT experiences and recommendations ?

ED, If the BLACK finishes you want waxed are PLASTIC, please do NOT do it you will be very sorry. The wax will not buff off completely like it does on paint, and what it left in the rough plastic finish will turn light grey or white, and is very hard to remove. I have several areas on my car with black plastic, and every time I get a little excess wax on these areas, within a few days it is very visible. No if your car is black and you are having the paint done, I am guessing any of the at home detailers will do this.

The new synthetic waxes that are available today or very easy to use and leave no swirl marks. I use Meguiars cleaner wax in the purple can, you put it on with the provided sponge pad and wipe if off with a terrycloth towel and it is flawless, we keep our cars in the garage and I only do them once a year. These waxes are very easy to use and don't required a lot of pressure to wipe off especially when compared to the old Simonize paste wax. It you are able to do it yourself, it's a very satisfying feeling when you are done and you know it was done right. I usually take 3 days, and hour or so per day, to do mine as my shoulders are shot.

Some of the new car waxes are spray on wipe off. Like Windex

Love bugs...spray front of car with a cyclone.. I use Pam.. keep straight blue dawn in spray bottle..spray and rinse...just saying

Have not used............jus heard of.

I have not waxed any car in 20 yrs, they are all garaged & with the advent of clear coat sealers no need to wax-- wash them once a week @ Atlantis--which has a $5.00/ everyday basic wash--The Admiral sometimes washes her car by hand, when she feels it needs it--especial the AMG wheels

Waxing new cars makes a huge difference in the depth of the shine and the feel of the surface. I wax my cars over a period of a few days and when I go out to continue there is no doubt as to what part has been waxed and what has not yet been completed. I like clean, shiny cars.

What’s a cyclone? In any case dawn works to remove bugs but also removes every bit of wax you have ever applied. I use it to clean the bugged windows on a long trip but never on the metal. I’ve heard that Pam (and other greasy stuff) trick but something about that “bugs” me. :D

It’s a brand new vehicle so for at least the first 6 months I take good care of it. After that........?????

Thanks. Not looking for detailing since it’s brand new just an application of a hard finish paste wax, not that spray stuff, for the first time until it gets old then I’ll just let it get dirty. :D

Agree - been in Florida for over 40 years and never waxed a car, never had finish fade - clear coat finish protects you car paint, you would be waxing the clear coat only
