Beautiful Trees in TV
 

Who can tell me what type of trees I'm seeing here and there in TV? These trees are HUGE and beautiful with massive trunks and limbs. Often, the limbs sweep over the roads and and spanish moss is trailing from them.

Help -- I'm definitely not a botanist!

In most cases those are live oaks.

I think one of the most beautiful places I have EVER seen is the area around the intersection of Buena Vista and Stillwater Trail. For those of you who haven't yet visited, it is an area with lots of huge live oaks dripping moss and other trimmed bushes of every kind and in the spring there are hundreds of Azaleas and behind all this as far as you can see on one side is protected wetland. The center of the drive has a median with beautiful plantings and flowering bushes too. This is a large area and once in it you are totally surrounded by this beauty for a quite few moments.

I wish the wordsmiths BK or PTurner or Boomer would use their skills to describe this place.

I always feel such tranquility there and drink in the absolute beauty of it.

Lake Griffin State Park
 

Lake Griffin State Park on 441/27 just South of 466A in Fruitland Park is home of one of the largest Live Oak trees in the State. You can pull into the park entrance and park on the right just before the gate ( meaning you don't have to pay to see this tree) and walk down the path to this fantastic tree. You will be amazed at the size of this thing. Link to park is below.

I think a picture is sometimes worth a thousand words Gracie. I looked and couldn't find photos of the area you mentioned. But in my search, I found this fabulous site with photos of TV. I started looking at the photos and forgot what I was looking for in the first place. There are hundreds of photos taken around TV. I think it is cool so people who haven't been to TV can see some of the things people who do live here talk about. When you get to the bottom of each page, just click "older photos."

Also, I don't know if this will work. I'm giving you a link to a Google Street View of the area around the intersection of Stillwater and Buena Vista. If it works, just play around with it to figure out how to move up and down the roadway. When you put your cursor over the photo, you will see the arrows. That is how you move to view the area. The little circle with the hand and arrows in the top, left corner of the photo is how you get a different angle of the view. If it doesn't work...go to Google Streets and put in the the street name and follow the directions.

Gracie, in the search box at the top of that page, type in Buena Vista, Lady Lake, FL. It doesn't recognize "The Villages," I suppose it's by postal addresses.

Anyway, let the map load. You will see some yellow colored roads on the map. These are the streets that allow street view.

You have to take the little golden colored person thing and place that where you want to view. The golden colored person thing is on the upper left of the map. It is attached to the slider scale thing. Just drag and drop on the yellow coded areas on the map on the yellow road where you want to navigate. It takes a little experimenting to get the hang of navigating, but it is the coolest thing I've seen as far as maps go.

You use the compass with the hand in the middle on left side of the map, above the minimize/maximize ( + and - ) slider to turn 360 degrees for the entire view of the area. When you put the cursor on the map itself, arrows appear. Click on the arrow to move forward of backward.

I know where you mean, Gracie. Here's a picture, though I couldn't take it in a spot that truly highlighted the beauty of that area. When Mike and I first visited TV, we were immediately attracted to that location. It's so pretty!

Whenever we have first-time visitors in TV (which seems to be every time we go-- sheesh), I drive them to LSL via Morse for the beautiful view going over the bridge. When we come back up to the northside, I drive south to Odell, then take Odell back to Buena Vista, just to take in that whole magnificent section of Buena Vista.

We also love the Spanish moss-dripping live oaks on the northside golf courses. Who cares what you score in their presence.
