ski club???
As strange as this may sound for Fla., are there any (forgive me for saying the word) snow skiers out there? Eventhough we will be moving to TV next year, we do ski and would like to get trips to go skiing in the winter.:pepper2:

um... snow is a four letter word down here. :jester:

Well, the closes skiing is probably in Virginia. Not exactly a day trip. Probably the very fanciest cruise ships have ski slopes, God knows they have everything else.

There's always water skiing. Does she shovel the snow? Perhaps if she doesn't, she should give it a try. That might convince her that heat is a lot easier to handle. As far as the grand-kids are concerned, they can always visit for 30 days a year.

Don't know of a ski club, but lets start one. I try to go a week every year, usually to Tahoe area. Really like skiing Kirkwood.

ski club
I would be interested - Miami ski club has many members http://www.miamiskiclub.com/club They belong to the "Florida Ski Council"
http://www.floridaskicouncil.org/index.htm The Orlando ski club looks good, I was thinking of joining them, but would love to have one in TV - http://www.orlandoskiclub.com/ Maybe there are others who would be interested. |
I do think we should start one. I know there is a lot of us out there what wouldn't mind "hitting" the slopes for a week out West!
How do you start a club??? |
Many years ago the Orlando Ski Club was one of the largest in the country. The closest areas to TV would be in North Carolina and that is to far for a day trip. I know that there was a ski shop/camping outfitter shop in Daytona Beach many years ago but the selection of skis and bindings was very limited.

floridida is like nr 2 in skiers per capita

I could probably could outfit half of TV with clothes for skiing! Ask my husbasnd!!!!
With airlines charging for second bags, it best to rent your equipment when you get to the slopes. Thanks Nitehawk for the club info. I will look into it. When we get to TV next year, I will look into starting a ski club. Maybe, we can convert a few people to join the "dark side" at least for a week. They have know idea what fun it is!!!! |
ski club
If you travel Southwest you can travel with two bags for free--skis and boots are considered one bag. So skies, boots, and a suitcase - no charge
|
I have found that by skiing only once a year for a week, that renting all the equipment is the way to go for me. I find a ski shop not located at the mountain and rent for the week. I always get the top end equipment, skis, boots and poles and usually have very new equipment. I don't have to carry it with me, it does not ever get out of date and cost is reasonable. Usually around $125 to $150 for the week. It would take me 10 years of renting to pay for my own and it would be out of date in 5 years. If you ski a lot, buy your own. But only a week a year and probably would work out for two weeks as well, rent.
