CoronaVirus | Club Events | Town Squares

Just wondering if your scheduled club events are being canceled or not.

I run the Long Island Club and are now getting emails if our 4/7 event will happen or not.

What about the nitely squares

I have seen news of Bunco (at Miona?) and Jim / Carolyn's dance class at Captiva.

IMO, all it would take is one COVID-19 case in TV to balloon into a real panic.

Agree, with over 100,000 it is possible, people are still returning from cruises and points outside the country.

Moreover, with most of us in the high risk age group and surly not enough ICU beds in the area.

This could be avoided and limited, but step one is closing the squares perhaps for 30 days to see how it develops

Let's hope it doesn't happen

One does not have to worry about beds, every hospital has a emergency plan for an event. Hospitals can send all their OB to one facility, and set one hospital for another issue.
Triage is always set up in the parking lot, and then set to correct facility. Entire floors can be turned into whatever the need.

April 7th Long Island Club event

This event scheduled for 6 p.m. is being canceled due to COVID-19 concerns. The event was to take place at the Eisenhower Recreation Center.

National and local health authorities have determined that social distancing reduces the risk of spreading or contracting this virus.

As the President I'm canceling out of an abundance of caution to avoid the possibility of unnecessarily exposing my friend's and fellow long Islanders.

But how many respirators do you think we have in this area? If only 2 % of the population gets seriously ill, they may need to intubate 2000 people. We do not have the resources to make that happen. For some this will be a lethal illness and health practitioners will need to make some tough decisions.
In our demographic, we each need to take responsibility for prevention. Avoid large scale events that can quickly multiply the scale of the infection.

No worries soon the population will drop in Florida. By the looks of I75 for the past 2 weeks the migration has started earlier than usual.
I have faith in medical emergency plans, it is what every staff member is trained for. Vents are portable, and can be moved to a facility quickly. This will not be the first time any medical staff need to make decisions, it’s not tough, it very cut and dry. There is protocol.

As for attending events, one should have made that decision weeks ago.

Intubate 2,000 people in our immediate area? You can't be serious. You are talking about the sickest of the sick who will need mechanical ventilation, so if 2,000 people out of say 120,000 need vent support, then probably 90+% of the population would be infected, (just an estimate, don't ask for a citation), making this worse than the bubonic plague of the 1300's

Area hospitals in question

I don't have the same comfort level in our hospitals meaning TV and Leesburg. I except Brownwood's new ER to this comment. I had several bronchitis with asthma and could not breathe but was kept waiting 5 hours in ER. A second time same year put in hallway in Leesburg as TV full up and had to wait gasping a while. That was 4 to 5 years ago. 2 years ago, waited 7 hours in ER with appendicitis. No improvement from 4 to 5 years ago.
Ocala has great ER and got in right away. I would hope Ugent Cares would expand hours to assist with some treatment although no beds

Stop posting these things please. You're only going to create Panic by doing so. The threat is not as large as people are making it out to be. Please just stop!!

how many OB beds do you think the Villages hospitals have???? Italy's health system is in crisis to lack of ICU beds. we have over 100,000 people here in the age group and with pre-exisiting conditions that could require ICU beds and/or respirators. but beyond that is staffing....already the area hospitals suffer from lack of staffing. it would be a disaster here.

I doubt there are many OB beds, since Villagers are generally over the childbearing age:1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

I didn’t say OB here:faint: hospitals would put like cases out of harms way, say a newborn, or infant, and move them to the same facility. Leaving all of the old people in one spot. It amazes me that people think anywhere in the US that 2000 people could be vented, in the same area.

As far as staffing you must not have come from medical field. If you work at a facility, and it becomes a triage unit. Everyone day off, vacation are called to work. You do not have a choice, and you will not be leaving that facility until the crisis is over. Yep you live there. Yes you work 16 hours, 8 off if possible. I have had the pleasure to serve in this situation more than once.

Medical staff do not panic, if they did they are in the wrong field.

The bonus is this is not trauma, so the new grads, won’t be deer in the headlights.
