Homemade disinfectant cleaner
 

Checked online for this as we may be running low next week - here's the recipe:

Vodka Disinfectant Spray Recipe
Easy and Effective Homemade DIY Disinfectant Cleaner

8 oz
Ingredients:
½ C Vodka (at least 60% alcohol, which is 120 proof)
½ C Water
15 Drops Essential Oils of Choice

Instructions
Mix in a spray bottle, give it a shake to mix.
Spray on surfaces like door knobs, faucet handles, toilet seats, etc.
Allow to air dry whenever possible, if not possible wipe with a very clean cloth.

Just made some - easy, and seems to do a very good job.

Before anyone says it - yes, I thought of simply using the first ingredient...internally.

According to CNN, this is NO good. Please be careful. There was an article about using Tito's(?) tequila for the same purpose.

I bet soda water and a twist of essential lime would make it multi-purpose😎

Tito's is not 60% alcohol. That's why it's not useful for disinfecting things.

You can use Everclear grain alcohol, which is 190 proof (95% alcohol). It is actually dangerous to drink by itself, but it's commonly used to inject into watermelons for a spiked melon at parties (it has to sit overnight before you cut it up).

Whatever you use rubbing alcohol for, you can use grain for. I thought I posted here previously - I use it to make perfume.

Two tablespoons of bleach to a gallon of water will make a more effective and much cheaper disinfectant.

CDC website says 5 tablespoons bleach to one gallon water, or 4 teaspoons bleach per quart.

Tito's is not tequila, it's Vodka. And OBB is correct, Tito's is only 40%.

I totally agree. These people who are hoarding will now take all the vodka that normal people drink for pleasure. I wish people would grow up and realize there are more people in the area than their own selfish person. There is no need to hoard supplies.

I’ve just checked the CDC, and it says one cup of bleach in five gallons of water for disinfecting hard surfaces. That’s about, what, a little less than one ounce of bleach in a gallon of water. About the same as you say.

It may be worth pointing out to readers that this disinfecting solution works better than alcohol but only costs about two cents per gallon. Pour your vodka over ice and have it as a treat after you’ve used the bleach solution.

Actually the reason I was keen on the Vodka disinfectant, was that we have 2 HALF GALLON bottles of Kievski Vodka. It HAS TO BE very well-aged, as we've had the bottles for 8 years (from deceased parent's stock-how long had THEY had them?) So, now have 1 unopened bottle, and 1 with a few shots taken for the disinfectant. Any Russian Vodka consumers there? offers?

Not only is vodka and essential oil/water not an antiseptic, it's freakin expensive. Better to use peroxide and alcohol but good luck finding any of that at the stores. So glad I have always kept a good stock up of these essentials,

You’re right villagetinker! Why would you want to use 10-20 or $25. Vodka when you can spend 2 or $3. for a jug of bleach & delute it 10 to 1. Bleach will kill any bacteria or virus. Villagetinker is correct, if vodka was that good we would all be using it for sore throats & colds & Drs. & govt. would telling us to use Vodka. I’m not going to argue anyone else’s comments to me, so if you think a bottle of vodka is better, keep spending your money on vodka & I’ll keep using something I know works! Just do what you believe in & ignore what anyone else says. Just stay healthy anyway you can.

I am using an old windex bottle and everclear, found in the package store. Same alcohol as in sanitizers and whiskey. Bleach works well, but be sure to rinse the surfaces afterwards. Chlorine is poisonous to almost every living creature

This DIY is the only safe one that will work - Must use 99 percent rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) or ethanol - key is 99%
Normal rubbing alcohol at stores are only 70% - 99% very expensive on Amazon & mostly not in stock.

What You'll Need
Equipment / Tools
• Bowl and spoon
• Funnel
• Bottle with pump dispenser
Materials
• 2/3 cup 99 percent rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) or ethanol
• 1/3 cup aloe vera gel
• 8 to 10 drops essential oil, optional (lavender, vanilla, peppermint)
• Mix well in a Bowl with spoon
• Put in a Pump bottle

PS: We also have Clorox Disinfecting Wipes ( Kills 99.% of Viruses & Bacteria) as well as Clorox Cleaner+Bleach in spray bottle (Kills 99.9% of Bacteria & Viruses). We have used them for years to wipe down so we have plenty. We will carry wipes in car to wipe down shopping carts & even our hands if we run out of hand sanitizer.
