Don't Flush Disinfecting Wipes!
 

If you thought TP was a problem, wait till the plumbing clogs! Disinfecting wipes (Clorox, Lysol, etc) should go into the garbage, NOT in the toilet.
Sewage treatment systems are not designed to handle them. Several cities/towns have already had problems. Headline from Detroit Free Press - "Wipes Clog Pipes"

Um, we are saving ours to use with our own bleach mixture, or with grain alcohol on counters and outdoors. I rinse them out in the sink, dry them outside in the sun, and then I don't have to go to buy extras for travel, use, its the disinfectant that needs to be replenished, in the same plastic bottle. Just use them again and again, as they are decently strong. There are so many simple ways to make dollars and household products go a lot farther, if you think like your WWII grandparents and parents.

Hard to believe anyone would flush wipes or paper towels or anything but tp.

We had a simple rule on our boat: Put nothing in the head that you didn't eat first.

That is a good rule to follow. Except for TP though even though some people may wind up eating only that if things get really bad and that is all they have stocked up.

Flushable wipes arent flushable
 

Some wipes say “flushable” right on the packaging. However, they don’t degrade and clog sewer lines. In NC, they had to dig up our street. So gross.

Another thing that you shouldn't flush is contact lenses. They've got the same reputation as wipes!

On another site....people were chatting about how they had napkins and paper-towels if they ran out of t.p. I posted the same warning about flushing and "some" people just scoffed at me. I said, "alright, then when you have a REAL issue and need a plumber---don't complain!" I grew up in the country with a septic system and my parents trained me well. Then we moved into town and we still employed the same habits. Even if the wipes say "flushable" the plumbers will say do NOT flush them and the same goes for anything that's NOT t.p. None of it biodegrades!!

Toilet paper is designed to fall apart very quickly when wet. (Some kind of fall apart during use!) Facial tissues are designed to be strong while you are blowing your nose, so while they dissolve, too, it takes longer, and a bunch of Kleenex tossed into your toilet and flushed can jam a pipe. Ideally, toss them in the trash, not the toilet. Paper towels advertised as tough for wiping off counters definitely should not go into the toilet. Wet wipes are much worse, even the supposedly flushable ones.

As for cleaning, use an ounce of household bleach in a gallon of water to sterilize your counters, not precious high-proof liquor! It only costs about three cents per gallon, and an ounce and a gallon may last you for a month of quarantine.

It could be worse. I once spent a week each in places in Ukraine and Borneo where the septic tanks were so poor that flushing toilet paper was strictly forbidden! You wiped, then tossed the toilet paper into a little plastic trash can which was emptied several times a day. Too fragrant for my nose!

As a plumber told me 'Golf balls are flushable too. But I don't recommend it.'
