2003 EZGO back fires
 

Just put a new carburetor on my 2003 EZGO. It is starting much better than with old one, but now I am getting a lot of back fires when I take my foot off gas. What should I do?

I have a 2015 Yamaha that had the same problem. I too went to TOV for help. My plea for help was answered.
Go to O'Rielly's auto parts on 301 in Wildwood and buy a bottle of RxP (red and yellow 2.5 oz. bottle) add 1/2 to a full tank of gas & run. It took about 1/2 tank to completely clean the carbon from the cylinder. I added the other half of bottle and filled up again.
Backfire totally stopped. Now I use mid grade gas, no additive, and have no more backfire.
Might not be your problem however for $7.00 it is sure worth trying.
You need to call O'Rielly's to order RxP. Takes about 1 day to get it in.

I have had two snowmobiles, 5 ATV's, one diesel tractor, 2 chainsaws, 2 diesel trucks, 4 F-150's, numerous gas powered weedwackers, 1 side by side, etc. I have used Sea Foam for the past 25 years and never had a problem. I recently had a backfiring problem with my 2012 Yamaha golf cart (1/2 tank old gas) added half a can of sea foam (6 ounces) and after 5 days of steady usage and non-ethanol gas cleared it up. I buy it by the gallon.

Is GREAT stuff. I've used it in cars, motorcycles, and lawn equipment for years.... Never an issue.

Sounds like it’s adjusted too rich or throttle not closing off? If it didn’t backfire before fuel additive problem not going to fix it. I also think the linkage is squirrelly to get adjusted right?

If you bought a 40 dollar carburetor online- that could be your issue.

If you tore a gasket, that could be your issue also.

If you did buy the cheap carb online, make sure you keep your old carb. A good golf cart tech can fix it.
